N.Y., not only runs her own pulp mill but is the first woman ever to hold office in the mechanical pulp section of the Canadian Pulp and Paper Association, She was elected vice-chairman of the section at the association's an- nual meeting in Montreal. The mill owned by this smartly dressed woman is at Thorold, Ont. on the banks of the Welland canal. "It serves the area for about 100 miles," she said, "The mill was a hobby of my former husband, John Roe, and has been in his family for three generations. When he died in 1951 I had to run it myself or sell it- I didn't think it fair to sell be- cause of the sentimental attach- ment members of his family had long had for the mill, so I decided to give it a try. FORTUNATE START "I was lucky in 1951 when I took it over. It was a good year for the pulp industry, and it certainly en- couraged me."
