Says Reds Apologised For Arrest BERLIN (AP) -- Mrs. Erika Glaser Watach, a central figure; in the mysterious Noel and Her- mann field "spy" case, said that the Russians apologized for arrest-| ing her. . She was held Yor five years in Communist East German jails and in Soviet work camps. She was freed earlier this month in Mos- cow, and arrived here Thursday. She told a press conference that| officials of the Soviet interior min- istry called her arrest an error and "they said they were very sorry it happened, and apologized.' The 33-year-old Mrs. Wallach, German-b®rn, is married to Rob-| ert Wallach, an American. She was arrested in Communist East Berlin in 1950, while searching for Noel Field, a former United States state department employee, and his wife. The Fields disappeared in Com- munist-governed Czechoslovakia in May, 1949. Three months later} Noei's brother Hermann, a former Cleveland architect, was arrested in Poland while searching for Noel. All the Fields were accused of spy- ing on Communist countries. Her- mann was ireed by the Poles a year ago and went to Switzerland, where he still lives. Noel and his wife were reieased by Hungary a month later, but asked for and re- ceived political asylum in that eountry. SHIRLEY Card Party Is Enjoyed H. B. DUFF | SHIRLEY --The school children had a holiday on Friday as the teacher, Miss McFadden, attended the convention at Port Perry for North Ontario inspectorate. Mr. and Mrs. Everet Wray had a card party at their home on Thursday night. Seven tables of cards were played. Ladies' high went to Mrs. H. Mahaffy with Mrs. Doris Tripp, second. There was a tie or man's high between Russel Coates and Grant Ma- haffy, and the tie was broken with Grant the winner. Roy Robertson was second. Mrs. R, Coates, Mrs. S. Moore, Mrs. M. Coates and Mrs. L. Duff were in Buffalo for a few days last weekend. | Sorry to report Donna Lambe is in Port Perry Hospital having had an appendix operation on Wednes- day. Your many school chums are hoping to see you well and back to school real soon, Donna. Sympathy is extended to the] families of the late Sybil Hocken who passed away at the Port Per- ry Hospital. Service was held at the McDermott chapel on Thurs-| day. Burial was in Toronto.
