Community Chest Campaign WHITBY CLASSIFIED A Boon To Human Welfare | A sound investment in human welfare is being asked of the citi- zens of Whitby next week. Mon- day marks the opening of the sixth annual campaign of the Whitby Community Chest, with an object- ive of $5,000. The Committee has felt that as centennial year celebration cli- max the citizens should in a gen- erous manner pay tribute, not only to the early founders of some of the organizations which are in- cluded in the appeal this year, such as the Victorian Order of Nurses, the Salvation Army, the Canadian Institute for the Blind, and the Womens Institute, which has the honor of being the sec- ond oldest branch in Canada. In the appeal also is the Viscount Greenwood Chapter of the Imper- fale Order Daughters of the Em- spire with diversified community interests. MANAGER'S STATEMENT Campaign Manager J. N. Me- Kine said yesterday in an inter- view concerning the needs of the various organizations in the chest that it would take only 65 cents from every man, woman child in Whitby to put the cam- paign over the top. 'We are thank- ful that every one of our citizens far more than their quota to make| up for those who cannot give as freely. However, if every house. holder would bear in mind this figure of 65 cents, per member of the household, then they would know if they gave more or less than their share." Mr. McKine, who was manager last year, and has headed several campaigns in Whitby, said he felt confident that with everybody getting be- hind the campaign, the objective would be reached. 'There is, how- ever, a lot of hard work to be done," he added. With team captains and can- | CARPENTER"S OVERALLS, 9-0Z, PER| square yard. Sanforized Denim. Five pocket apron.
