Falby was the guest speaker at Ajax Rotary luncheon. Cadet Fal- by, who is attending University of Toronto, has for the past three years spent her summer vacation time with the RCAF. Her talk dealt with her experience during those months of service. She prefaced her remarks by outlinging the present set of the RCAF in Canada. SIX COMMANDS The Royal Canadian Air Force, in order to facilitate its role in the defence of Canada, is made up of six commands including Air Defence, Air Transport, Tracing, Air Material, Maritime and Tactic- al Air Commands. Co-ordinated they provide the nucleus of a force which, in case of attack, will enable Canada to mobilise as swiftly and effectively as possible in defence of her freedom. These commands along with the four fighter 'wings in Eu- rope compose the RCAF in its entirety. For the aircrew veterans in the RCAF reserves, there are three plans under. which they may con- tinue training. They may elect to join the auxiliary, the most active form of connection with the re- serves, or they may, undertake fly- ing training with local flying clubs, under the Repeater Flying Train- ing Plan, or they can transfer to the Suplementary Reserves on in- active list. There is, also, the Mob- ilization Assignment Training Plan, under which officers of other than aircrew status may take limited periods of contact training right in a RCAF unit. 3 Of the universities, the TUni- versity Reserve Training plan was inaugurated to provide a continued flow of university trained person- nel into thé RCAF Regulars and Reserves under this plan the students are employed for the sum- mer months on formal courses, or on contact fraining, and on one night a week during the academic term, with an option of joining the RCAF regular reserves upon graduation. They are enrolled with the rank of Flight Cadet, and after complet- ing three summers in the RCAF, they are eligible for promotion to the rank of Pilot Officer. OFFICER TRAINING PLAN Another plan in operation is the regular Officer Training Plan un- der which selected male candi- dates are subsidized as Flight Ca- dets for four years prior to obtain- ing Applied Science. They then re- ceive a Flying Officer's Commis- sion in the RCAF regular on the aircrew or technical list.
