In 1952, Britain imported from Denmark 87,794 tons of butter, 15, 472 tons of cheese, 183,599 tons of bacon and 61,731 tons of eggs out of total Danish exports of 116,656 tons of butter, 53,841 tons of cheese 214,480 tons of bacon and 88,6 tons of eggs. : A revolution in methods is going on in Danish farming. One innova- tion has been the extensive culti- vation of fodder beets, which has saved Denmark the necessity of importing large quantities of feed On the processing side, one of Jabs Give Cold To St. Laurent OTTAWA (CP)--Prime Minister St. Laurent is suffering from a slight cold brought on by inocula- tions necessary for his coming trip to Ei and the Far East. A esman in his office said Mr. St. Laurent's cold is 'a mild case." He attended the night ses- sion of the Commons. REG BRYANT ELECTRIC Wiring & Repairs ns ON ST. SOUTH the most important developments was the decision to build super- dairies for the production of butter and cheese. Butter now is pack- aged by the pound instead of in large casks, the traditional way. IMPROVEMENTS SOUGHT Breeds of animals are being re- viewed. While there seems no rea- son to change the king of Danish farm animals, the landrace pig. there is not so much certainty about the dairy herds. Sixty per cent of Danish herds are Danish reds. Jutland black and whites and shorthorns account 96 | for only 15 per cent and 11 per cent of the total while holsteins, which give more milk, represent only one per cent of Danish herds. Although Danish. cereal yields are the highest in the world, Danes are still dissatisfied. Latest com- paraiive figures show wheat yields Denmark are about 54 bushels an acre. Britain gets only about 39 bushels to an acre, the United States 18 and Canada about 16. The only main produce in which Denmark occupies second place is potatoes. Holland leads with 396 bushels an acre while Denmark produces 318. Highways Minister Issues Warning To Vehicle Drivers tention and proper control, its men- ace is alive and very real. "Must there be lives lost to in- inattention 'Next to excessive speed," main- tains the Hon. Geo. H. Ontario Minister of Highways, 'preoccupation contributes most to motor vehicle accidents. "Even under ideal conditions of light, and weather, we are continually recording motor veh- icle collisions in which drivers who although entirely responsible citiz- ens in the normal sense of the word, fail to make allowance for the presence of other vehicles or pedestrians. We must conclude that they are thinking of something else since there is always a shortage of evidence that they were think- ing of their driving. They have no wish to become involved in a col- (wish lision, yet they drive into sitations where collisions are bound. to oc- cur, "With the Christmas season rap- idly approaching, it is inevitable that preoccupation will increase. There are gifts to think of, shop- ping, the children, family visits and the wonderful warmth which comes from Jenewing old friend- ships. But on top all this, as long as there are motor vehicles and drivers and pedestrians involv- ed, there are some very sobering requirements. A long as one is driving or walking in traffic, to relax attention for even an in- stant is endangering some one's Carol Service Pageant Planned A Carol service and Christmas pageant will be held at St. John's Church at the Bay oh Sunday next at 7 p.m, The choir and singers will be under the direction of the organist and choirmaster Mr. T. Notice is hereby given that Hatch Jarrett Tool Co. Limited will make an application to His Honour the Lieutenant-Governor for leave to surrender its charter. Dated ot Whitby, Ontario, this Eleventh day of F. CLIVE HATCH, Doucett, | think life or limbs. The temptation to of the season's activities is very great. "But what of the 39 people who died in motor accidents during the week of Christmas last year, What of the hundreds who were cruelly injured, some permanently, dur- ing the same week... The week which gives the Christian world jis greatest knowledge of brother- hood, when our feelings for our fellow men are at their warmest, when our thoughts turn most often to lending a elping hand to the less fortunate . . . by failing to drive attentively or perhaps by taking chances, we bring about what we most to avoid -- hardship and misery to family, friends or our fellow men. "'Forf many years now my own Christmas has been darkened by apprehension of what is likely to take place on our streets - and highways. Each year as our traf- fic volume increases and the num- ber of accidents and traffic deaths increases, the apprehension grows. "The motor vehicle in proyiding ease and convenience of travel is perhaps the most remarkable of man's inventions, but when man fails to accommodate and respect the motor vehicle's existence and use, it becomes an instrument of pure brutal destruction. The in- strument itself does not change-- nor -for that matter does the good- will of its driver, but lacking at- difference and Christmas? Must these sacrifices be made? -- the little children and old people who die in collisions or are struck down on our roadways . . the families brok- en and crushed by misery at the loss of loved ones? "I beg everyone who walks or drives to think of both sides of the motor vehicle picture. . . the great boon and convenience it the death dealing, crippling metal monster it can be. I ask everyone to think of these things an their utmost to make this Christ- mas an, outstanding milestone in le to make hways the our very sincere stru Ontario's streets and safest in the world."
