RUNNYMEDE RINK WINS 400 Lawn Bowlers Compete In Annual GM Gold Cup Event Four hundred bowlers, a total of 100 rinks, competed in the 15th annual General Motors Gold Cup tournament here and in Whitby sterday, with Tommy James' ede foursome copping top honors, with three wins and a score of 31 plus 4 to take home the Gold Cup and four handsome chests of silverware. Skip James and Alf Gray, an- other member of his rink, have been competing in the Gold Cup tournaments here ever since the event was inaugurated fifteen ars ago and this marked their t triumph. Last year they were beaten out on the last shot of their final game. : COMPETITION WAS CLOSE Competition was especially keen yesterday with Percy Skitch's Lind- say rink finishing a bang-fip sec- ond. They also had three wins, for a score of 31 plus 1, only three "plus" shots less than the Runny- mede victors. Skitch's rink got the alarm radios donated by Ontario Motor Sale. Another Lindsay rink, this one ped by L. Davis, gave their club-mates a close race, with three wins and a score of 30 plus 1, to take home "toastmasters" donated by Mills Motors Sales. Best showing by any entry from immediate entry was made by the Whitby foursom skipped by Doug Adams. yey had three wins and score of 26 plus 2 to win the handsome gold wrist watches. W. J. Gallagher's West Toronto rink was next with 25. for three wins while A. Cox's Port Perry Clift entry had 24 plus 8. W. Other prize-winning rinks in the three-win bracket, were skipped by Archie Mayo of Toronto withrow J. Taylor of Balmy Beach; L. E. McLean of Belleville; C. Trelford of Royal Canadians; C. Yerex of . Richmond Hill and E. P. Roy of Ottawa. TWO OSHAWA RINKS SHARE Two Oshawa . rinks made the Price list. Ewart Cornish and his oursome had the best two-win total of the day, 23 plus 4 while Jack Hunter's entry finished in the 18th slot with a score of 12 plus 7 for one win. Prizes included club bags, Gren- fell jackets, electric kettles, blank- ets, steam irons, lawn chairs, foam pillows; garden hose, carpet sweepers, travel clock, lighters and egg cookers.
