BOWMANVILLE AND DISTRICT Representative--Donald Hendry, 77 Ontario St., Phone 881 Bind All Parties To Keep Peace BOWMANVLLE -- A charge of assault against Nick Bartko, laid by Mr. and Mrs. Mike Barko, who are cousins living in Newtonville fn Bartko's house, led to some merry allegations on the part of the chargers and charged in Bow- manville Police Court yesterday. Bartko was alleged to have bitten Mrs. Annie Barko on the arm causing her great ignomihy and sore pain. Bartko was also alleged to have pursued Mr. Barko about his house with a knife and axe threatening to "kill body". Somewhere along the course of the scuffle the accused Bartko managed to acquire som mystr- ious wounds himslf, possibly in- flicted by the knife he was said to have wielded against the other man. + Along about the centre of this melee both men were burned by a pot of boiling water or coffee which Barko said fell 'from the disarm the accused. Bartko denied having attacked either party with any weapon, but promptly peeled off his shirt to show the court his own wounds. This demonstration prompted Magistrate Gee to remark, "Keep your shirt on!" The tangled evid- ence continued for over an hour, with no one finding out any further actualities concerning the case. They were supposedly drinking before the donneybrook. The only concrete submission was the fact that Bartko had been trying for some time to oust the other couple who had shared his farmhouse 'for several months, and that this might have fomented the brawl. | Magistrate Gee insturcted all parties concerned to be bonded to the peace and told the Barko couple to pick up their furniture and move to more peacable sur- roundings. Miss arion Smith of Pickering was the visiting pianist for both the evangelistic service and the 9 p.m. songtime program. Special music was provided by a ladies duet from the Oshawa Ukrainian Baptist Church. The challenging Christian sound film, "The Flickering Flame" was shown to the appreciative gather- ing. All young people from Ajax and district are urged to attend these Sunday night youth meetings, each week featuring special music and gospel sound films. Ajax Ladies Eliminate Bowmanville AJAX -- (Times-Gazette Staff Reporter) -- Ajax Ladies Softball team eliminated Bowmanville cad- illacs in the fifth game of a best of five series, in the first round of the playoffs in the Ladies Lake- shore League.
