Andrews Church on Sunday evening when the choir assisted by voices from Whitby, Dunbarton and Toronto sang the cantata "Crown of Life." The program opened with the solo, 'The Beatitudes," by Mr. E. Crockatt, Toronto. . The cantata under the leader- ship of Mrs. R. N. Spratt was sung in two parts, the first featured a pleasing adaptation of Handel's "Largo," beginning with duet by Mrs. H. McClements, soprano, and Miss Joan Wilson. contralto. During the break, Miss Lillian Roberts soprano, Toronto, sang the well-known "How lovely are Thy dwellings." Miss Roberts has a very pleasing quality of voice and excellent control over her entire range. In the second part the choir of twenty-six voices presented an equally pleasing performance. The last chorus, "The Lord is My Sal- vation," was exceptionally well done. Soloists were, Mrs. Kinsman, Mrs Reg. Parker, Mrs. Howard Mec- Clement, Miss Joan Wilson, Miss L. erts, Mr, E. Crockatt and Mr. John Frost. ROTARY SPEAKER The guest of Rotarian W. A. Goudy, Charles Azzopardi, a na- tive of the Isle of Malta and now with Bayly Engineering, Ajax, spoke to the local club on Mon- day on his native island home with a population of 350,000 and increas- ing at the rate of 10,000 each year. This island only sixteen miles long and eight miles wide holds no fu- ture for many. With no natural resources all raw materials must be imported but even this handicap doesn't pre- vent them from out selling other nations on exported goods. Malta has been a strategically placed island since the pre-Chistian era and has been an outpost and con- trol centre for several nations par- ticularly the British Empire. An unusual feature of the Island lies in their not having any spring water, no streams, lakes or springs all water for human consumption is obtained from rainfall and im- ported from the mainland in tank- ers.
