Representatives of local groups and the municipality made up the group. Discussion revolved around the financing of such a major pro- ject. Several methods were sug- gested and a committee was chos- en to prepare a formula and make plans for a large public meeting, date of which will be announc in The Times-Gazette where plans will be presented to the citizens for approval. There was not one dissenting voice from the meeting regarding the need in this area for an arena. The lack of natural ice the past few winters has made the erec- tion of outdoor rinks uneconomical in relation to the very little skat- ing time that can be obtained from them. Ajax hockey teams this winter have been forced to play most of their games in Toronto. Transpor- tation and admission charges have imposed such a financial burden on the sponsors,' that of the four teams, only one was able to con- tinue to the play offs. It has been estimated that $75- 000 would be required to build an ed arena here. Promises have been made that a site is ayailable and it is estimated that two or three [358 acres would be required to pro- vide ample parking space and room for expansion. Appointment of Rector Welcomed By Anglicans AJAX -- (Times-Gazette Staff Reporter) -- The now official an- nouncement that Rev. J. E. Har- vey will take over full time duties as Rector of Ajax Holy Parish is good news. Mr. Harvey has made a host of friends here since he has been looking after the pastoral work of the church in this new town. The appointment of Mr. Harvey in a full time capacity is a re- cognition of the continued growth the Anglican ministry here aad that it has reached the stage where in all justice to the parish and to the person responsible more time must be given. The choice of Mr. Harvey for this important task is most ac- ceptable to all Ajax Anglicans and friends alike. The Anglican congregation start- ed here in conjunction with the IntePdenominational Church early in 1943, and worshipped there un- til 1946 when a new arrangement was made and St. George's, Pick- ering, became their church home. Sunday School was held in the Le- gion Hall Ajax. Later arrangements were made to use the Recreation Hall for ser- vices and this continued until the congregation purchased the Com- munity Hall. Rev. E. G. Robinson served the Ajax Anglicans well and it could be said that he was the pioneer and founder of the Ajax Anglican Church. The future for Ajax Anglicans now looks bright, owning their own church home and a resident full time clergyman to promote the parochial work is a long step for- ward and marks an important milestone on the road of progress. A hearty welcome is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Harvey to Ajax and the future progress of the shuren will be watched with in- rest. Easter Seal Campaign Is Still Open AJAX -- (Times-Gazette Staff Reporter) -- The Ajax\ Rotary Seal campaign in aid of crippled children has received gen- erous support but there are still many set of seals outstanding and Rotarian Reg Humphries Chair- man of the Campaign Committee would like it known that the fund is still open and there is still time for those who have not yet sub- scribed to do so.
