The presi- dent, Bruce Taylor conducted the O opening exercises and a lengthy pusiness discusson followed. The inspiring worship service with the New Year as its theme was led A priod of games was conducted by Pearl Leach after which sandwches, cookies and home made candy were served. DANCE SUCCESS One hndred and fifty people of the Solina community and the sur- rounding district celebrated New Year's Eve with a dance in Solina hall which was gaily decorated for the occasion with balloons, spark- stars and Christmas trees with colored lights. The first part of the evening was enjoyably spent in dancing to music provided by Bryce Brown and his Seven Aires. The winners of the special dance were spot dance, Mr. and Mrs. n Young, Oshawa; Birthday elimination dance won by Mr. and Mrs. Wes Yellowlees; spot dance, Ross Cryderman and Mrs. Chas. Langmaid and the door prize won by Murray Vice and Faye Gilroy. As the old year drew to a close a large circle was formed and Auld Lang Syne was sung then everyone after receiving gaily col- ored paper hats and horns welcom- ed in the New Year, 1953. Re- freshments were served and danc- ing brought the evening to a close. FILM PROGRAM Miss Velma Gilbert and Mr. Bob Johnson of Toronto provided # splendid entertainment of films in the hall on ' Friday evening. Those of us whose hopes of travel- ling to distant places may be only unrealized dreams, enjoyed an im- . aginary trip via coloured slides across the vast prairies to Lake Louise, Jasper, Banff, through the Canadian Rockies to the West Coast and Vancouver Island. After viewing the natural majestic splen. dour of the towering Rockies, mir- rowed in the beautiful lakes below, the brilliant colours of the flowers, the dazzling white of the eternal snow, all presenting an endless variety of scenery, we realize we have good reason to feel justly proud of our country. Canada, glorious Ontario autumn and win- ter scenes were also shown as well as several scenes of New 'York's main' streets and avenues and skysrapers. During a brief intermission Mike Jurko favored with accordion selec- tions, Wes Yellowlees, chairman on behalf of those assembled, ex- pressed nks to Velma and Bob for kindly sharing their pictures with us. PERSO NALS r. and Mrs. George Knox en- tertained friends at an enjoyable Court Whist party on Saurday night. Prizes for highest scores were won by Johnnie Leger and Faye Gilroy.
