Smo" Utility Commission Holds Final Meeting ® 9 At its final meeting of the year, Whitby Public Utility Commission found itself in somewhat violent dispute with the man who has been acting as its own solicitor for the past two years, John Hare. Two months ago, the commission re- quested Mr, Hare to write County Council on a certain matter which was in dispute between the two bodies and instructed him to eouch the communication in "moderate" language even though there was some annoyance on the part of the commission at that time over the subject under dispute. Later, reports reaching the Com- sion, indicated that Mr, Hare's let- ter had not been all they request- had taken much objection to its contents. Accordingly, the Commis. sion wrote Mr. Hare demanding that a copy of the communication be supplied. Now Mr, Hare has written the Commission stating that he does not like the tone of its letter to himself and that he is declining to accede to its demand. however, he would attend a meet. ing in person and produce a copy if so requested. At this stage, the affair has as- sumed the propostions éf a minor brawl between client and solicitor, Although the original business for which Mr. Hare was engaged has now been completed, his ac- count has not yet been rendered and the recommendation of the 1951 commission to the 1952 com- mission, is: no letter, no payment. Frank Wells, Brock Street South, wrote the commission enclosing an electrician's account for $5 for re- pairs to his .neter box. A passing truck dragged down the electric service cable across the road and tore it clean from its moorings in his cellar. The commission found that the cable installation is 15% feet above the road level -- far above the required height and that (Continued on Page 5) Scouts And Cubs Help Santa Claus Displays of toys which have been | donated by the citizens and repair | ed and renovated by the Boy Scouts and Cubs for distribution to organizations handling Christmas cheer baskets in town, are on dis play in the office window: of Mr, Clive Hatch and Reeve Duncan B.
