(Dec. 23) Pl Carrier Teams Try Vans To Speed Delivery Toronto--The Port Office depart- ment began an experiment here to- day in an effort to find a workable effort of speeding up letter car- rier delivery service in municipalities. W. J. Turnbull, deputy postmast- er general, is here to observe the start of the experiment, which is being conducted in a section in the north end of the city, A similar experiment will be conducted in a section of Montrtal, and if the re- sults meet Post Office department expectations, the system will be extended to the two big eastern cities and to other cities as well. The plan is a simple one: Letter carrier will operate as teams work- ing from accompanying vehicles in given areas. In large cities like Toronto, postal authorities point out, a great deal of time is spent by letter carriers getting to and from outlying residential sec- tions of the city by street car or bus. By using a van to transport carriers and mall, this time loss 41--Articles Wanted HIGHEST PRICES PAID FOR paper, rags, mattresses, iron and metals. (CP)~--Because of the high cost and scarcity of fuel, the church in this Lincolnshire village will not be heated on week- days this winter. - So the vicar will charge $3 for anybody who wants a' warm church for a wed- will be greatly reduced. The experimental team here con- sists of six letter carriers and a driver supervisor. The van is loaded twice during the day, once in the morning and again at noon. In addition to speeding up deliv- ery, the plan has two other speci. fic advantages. By working from the van, the mail load of the indi- vidual carrier is lightened. At the same time carriers can be sure that they are adequately dressed for the weather. The carrier can store his rain coat or winter over- coat in the van for use when he needs it. This is a great boon to carriers, who start out on their rounds on a fine day only to run into rain or a stqrm before they have finished delivering. NORTH SIMCOE PHARMACY 885 SIMCOE ST.
