Tooling for the manufacture of this order will be started immedi- atzly according to A. E. Barit, presi- dent of Hudson. This is the third aircraft order to be received by Hudson, Mr. Barit said. The orders will not interfere with automobile production schedules permitted by the Government. Value of the new contract will be in the millions, but exact figures | cannot be revealed for reasons of military security. The B-47 Stratojet weighs. 185,000 pounds and is powered by six J-47 engines providing more than 5,200 pcunds thrust each. Provision also fs made for 18 ATO (assist take-off) units of 1,000 pounds thrust each. The plane has a wing span of 116 feet and a sweep back of 35 de- grees. It 1s 108 feet Jong and 28 feet high. It has a ceiling of over 35,000 feet and can carry a 20,000 pound bomb load more than 2,000 miles. 'The plane is operated by a crew of three, including the pilot, co-pilot and navigator bombardier. The plane, which is a medium bomber, early in August made a non-stop flight from . Fairbanks, Alaska to Wichita, Kansas, cover-| ing the approximately 2,800 mile flight in five hours, 36 seconds. !
