Utica Bazaar Popular Event MRS. R. WILBUR Correspondent Utica -- The bazaar which was held in the Port Perry Library base- ment. on Saturday was very suc- cessful. There were tables of fancy work, aprons, knitting, quilts, mis- cellanieous articles, towels and home cooking. The most popular of food items was home-made bread and buns as these were all gone ap- proximately 5 minutes after the bazaar opened. The bazaar was opened at 3 o'clock by Mrs. Edgar Leask with a brief address. At 8:30 Saturday evening everything had betn sold. Tea served to the visitors during the afternoon and Utica W.A. had cleared about $120.00. . About 80 persons attended the Anniversary Services in Utica United Church Sunday evening. The church was beautifully decorated with autumn flowers for the occasion. Rev. Mr. Chapin of Greenbank was the special speaker and preached a sermon on the "talents", Utica choir sang two an- thems, "O What a Wonderful Saviour" and "Though Your Sins be as Scarlet". There will be no church service here next Sunday because of Bethe esda anniversary services, but Sun- day School will be at the usual time of 1:30 p.m. : Some of the local students who attend Port Perry High School went by bus to the Inter-County Field Day at Bowmanville on Fri- day. Sunday visitors with Mrs. George Ward were Miss Lou Ward of To- ronto and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kerry of Port Perry who also at- tended the anniversary service at night. Mr. and Mrs. Paterson of Wind- sor are spending a week with Mr. and Mrs. Herman Walker. They are cousins of Mrs, Walker. Mrs. Jack Crosier, Mrs, Bruce Bailey, Mrs. Ralph Wilbur and Miss Ada Stephenson of Utica and Mrs, G. Jeffrey and Mrs. Arm- strong of Epsom attended the x-ray clinic in Uxbridge last Wed- nesday afternoon. Mrs. H. Reazin and daughter Irene were Sunday guests with Mrs. A. Christie and Miss A. Stephen- son. They are from Blackwater, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Mitchell were visiting Leslie Paffery in Uxbridge Saturday night. Mrs. H. Skerratt who has been in Lindsay Hospital for more treatments is home again. Mrs. Locke spent a few days last week in Zrenton. W. Hope Dies MRS. D, HOPE Correspondent Scugog Island -- There passed peacefully away at the Whitby Hospital on Tuesday morning, September 25th David Wakefield Hope in his 76th year. He was born on Scugog Island where he spent most of his life. Besides his wife he leaves a family consisting of Mrs. Hubert Long of Prince Al- bert, Roy of Port Perry, Leonard of Alaska and Shirley at home. Two brothers, Norman of Kindersley, Sask., Gordon of Greenbank and a sister, Mrs. W. J. Mullen of Baring, Sask. also survive. The Rev. J, D. Mackinnon was assisted by the Rev. F. G. Joblin in conducting the funeral service. Their messages were full of comfort to the family. The funeral was held on Thursday afternoon from A. L. McDermot funeral home. Burial was made in Pine Grove Cemetery, Frince Albert. The pallbearers were Wilfred Mark, Jonathan Al- dred, Robert Tetlow, Robert Pren- tice, Alex Martyn and Jess Demara. Mr. and Mrs. Alan Martyn are enjoying a few days on a motor trip to Chicago, Sympatay is extended to Mr. and Mrs. G. Mills in the passing of their son Harold in the Toronto Hospital. Worship service in Grace Church was well attended on Sunday morning and all received a fine message from Rev. J. D. Mackin- non and the message from the choir was, "Christ Shall Reign Again". Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs, Raymond Fralick on the birth of a son, a little brother for Sandra. Wedding bells are finging again, and again. Little Lynn Hare of Toronto is spending a few weeks with Miss Edna Prentice, mn Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Fralick® and family, Gloria, Stephen and § Marlyn enjoyed a few days' motor trip to Ottawa and Montreal. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Prentice ac~ companied *Mr. and Mrs, Joe Dow~ son and son Jim on a motor trip to Ottawa and other parts of inter- est for the week-end.
