The nurse said he was being "/disciplined." The Communists admit that such cruelties sometimes go on in their hospitals. Their newspapers also admit startling neglect and care- lessness. The ® official Hungarian news- paper Szabad Nep, for instance, re- ported these "grave mistakes' at the Lasszlo isolation hospital in Budapest: "Nurses wake up the infants at 4 a.m. to bathe them or take their temperature, claiming they cannot tidy up the wards for the morning medical visit unless they do. . .The statistics showing the development and progress of the children is written on the charts just by guess- work. .. The doctors do not know that the nurses go over from one section for infectious diseases to an other, visiting each other. "The other day, nurse Agnes Pacnik just 'ran over' from the scarlet fever ward to the diphthe- ria ward to borrow penicillin. . ." In Bulgaria, often you can get an ambulance to take you to a hospital only if you are a com- munist or know a communist. The Sofia newspaper Rabotnits- chesko Delo said this happened to a worker named Adonoff, member of a cooperative store: "Two days after his return to work from an operation, Adonoff got worse. When the hospital was called, the hospital director pro- mised to send an ambulance. But the car did not come. "When new calls were made to the hospital, there was no reply. A state hospital at Jambol was called. But they said they could not send an ambulance because the patient was not from their district. The district physician at Topolov- grad was called, and he said the patient must help himself. Approves Control Bill Washington (AP) -- Senate ap- proval of a new economic controls bill -- permitting some price and rent rollbacks and opening the way for some increases -- today shifted the controversial measure to the Housé of Representatives. House leaders plan to call it up for a'vote Monday. They predicted passage, which would sent it to President Truman just a day be- fore the present law expires at mid- night Tuesday. The Senate passed the bill last night shortly after a Senate-House committee had completed work on a compromise version of separate measures approved earlier by the two emergency controls until next June -- 12 months less than Tru- man asked. ABBOTT HAS SURPLUS OF $336,445,157 Ottawa (CP)--The federal go- vernment, budgetting for a 1951-52 sruplus of $30 million piled up a surplus of $336,445,157 in the first three months of the fiscal year, it was disclosed Friday night. The months treasury report, is- sued by the office of Finance Min- ister Abbott who is on holidays, showed that revenues totalled $886,638,608 and expenditures $530,- 293,451 in the three -month period. In 1950-51, Mr. Abbott budgetted for a surplus of $15 million and wound up with one of $203,456,000. In his budget speech last * April 10, Mr. Abbott estimated 1951-52 revenues at $3,730,000,000 and ex- penditures at $3,700,000,000.
