'Callous Driver Kills Dog On Highway No. 7 MRS. J. NEWPORT Correspondent Kinsale. -- One night this week just after retiring, Mr. and Mrs. Newell got up to investigate a noise they heard coming from the high- | way. They found "Biff," a Collie dog owned by Mr. and Mrs. G. Curl, The dog had been injured by a car LET'S ALL GO TO CHURCH REGULARLY The Church Under Persecution APOSTLES, FACING MARTYRDOM, TO BE GOOD SOLDIERS OF CHRIST 3 EXHORT CHRISTIANS By NEWMAN CAMPBELL IN GENESIS we read of man's creation, "God said, Let us make man in our image, after our like- ness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over ) that creepeth upon the earth. "So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them." Isn't it odd that up through the ages man has not thought of his brother men as created in the im- age of the Almighty? If he had, how could be have treated him as he has? And if all men realized that they are made in the image of God, how could they permit themselves to be so cruel, so unjust, so tyran- nical to their brothers? Are humans just beginning to realize their inheritance and to de- mand that they (every individual) should be treated with respect, love, brotherhood? Jesus considered people worthy of help and healing. Every one who came to Him in faith and sincerity He aided -- the beggar at the roadside, the rich man. Little children were His friends and He used a child to illustrate the humble spirit that men needed to achieve the kingdom of heaven. Our first story that shows the spirit of Jesus is when a poor leper came to Him and begged to be cured. No one else would touch a person so afflicted. They would be afraid that they would become in- fected and "unclean"... Jesus, the Christ, did not fear. When the man, probably kneel- ing before Him, said: "Lord, if Thou wilt, Thou canst make me clean," "Jesus put forth His hand and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed." Jesus told the man to tell no one, but to show himself te the priest, and to offer the gift Moses com- manded. On the Sabbath Jesus went into the synagogue, and there was a Pharisees asked Jesus if it was lawful to heal on the Sabbath, What man of them, asked Jesus, owning a sheep, would not lift it out of a pit into which it had fal- len, even if it was the Sabbath? "How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the Sabbath days." Jesus had the man stretch forth his arm and when he did so, the Lord healed it. The disciples came to Jesus to ask, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?" seeking spe- cial favors for themselves. Jesus gave them a lesson then and there: He called a little child and put him among them. Then He said, "Verily I say unto you, except ye be converted, and become 6 as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. | "Whosever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom. of heaven," and He went on to say that he who received such a little child in His name, received Him, and woe betide one who should of- fend such a little one. In a recent lesson we had the parable of the man who had many sheep, and one went astray. The owner left the ninety and nine, and searched until he found the lost one. Then he carried it home and gave a feast to his friends to cele- brate the return of the lost lamb. "He rejoiceth more of that sheep than of the ninety and nine which went not astray. "Even so it is not the will of your GRACE LUTHERAN REV. N. KRITSCH, Pastor 150 ALBERT ST. SUNDAY, JUNE 24, 1951 10 AM. SUNDAY SCHOOL 11 AM. MORNING WORSHIP BE YE MERCIFUL, FOR YOUR FATHER IS MERCIFUL . SACRAMENT OF HOLY BAPTISM Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should per- ish." God, our Father made all of us and we all share the good things of the earth -- or at least, such should be our heritage. When we do not share with others; when we are proud and treat them as if we thought they were not as good as we, we should remember Jesus in His brief sojourn on earth. He respected people for what they were, He "ate 'with publicans and sinners;" talked to the woman of and taught her His gospel. Why cannot we consider each person we meet as also made in God's image? Like little children, why are we not humble in spirit so that we too may inherit the kingdom of heaven, And why. do we not act while we are here on earth as if we ARE made In God's image? URGES "MORAL COURAGE" Fredericton (CP) -- Greater ex- ercise of "moral courage" is need- ed today if the democratic, Chris- tian way of life is to be preserved from materialism and communism, Rev. J. This driver is an example of | some of the speed demons who | travel on No. 7 Highway. The lights on the car were quickly dim- med and the car headed straight for the body on the road, running over and killing the dog. Mrs. New= ell had to make a hasty retreat to the shoulder of the road to escape injury to herself. Needless to say this driver did not stop his car either. At the rate of speed at which the car was travelling, the driver could not see if the body on the road was human or an animal. Villagers be- lieve it is time that something was done to stop the excessive speeding on this stretch of No. 7 Highway.
