OKE Ci Courtice,~The members of Cour. tice choir were at the Cadmus ap- pointment on Sunday evening when they provided the musical numbers for the service, They were assisted by Messrs. Cliff Staples and Snyder from Oshawa. The young people took along a picnic supper but, due to weather conditions enjoyed hav- ing it in the Sunday School room. After the evening service all were fnvited to the home of Miss Birdie Fallis, when, a pleasant time was spent with music and refreshments. Among those in the company was Mrs. Bella Short, who, thoroughly enjoyed the outing. < Mr, and Mrs. Ron Lamont and daughter Angela, were recent guests with Mr. and Mrs. W. Lynde, Ke- dron. Mr. and Mrs. Don Thompson were among the guests at the Oshawa Dairy banquet held at the Recrea- tion Club Flying School, Oshawa. Mrs. Edythe Johnston accompan- fed by her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs, Howard Mitchell, Do- ver, New Hampshire, and Mrs. Bow- erman and son Brian, Toronto, were recent visitors with Mrs, Bella Short. Mr. Fergus Kinsman is improving nicely after his recent tonsil oper- ation at Oshawa Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Gerrow and David, Welcome, were Satur- day visitors with Roy and Mrs. Dunn. Best wishes are extended to Mr. and Mrs. Lome Penfound (nee Jean Edna Foster) who were quiet- ly married on June 2 at the par- sonage, Whitby, by Rev. R. J. Scott. Mrs. Ed. Edmonson is sufficiently recovered from her illness during the winter to return to their cot- tage here again for the summer. Mr. and Mrs, Edmonson were down last week looking things over in preparation to coming in from To- ronto, Mrs. Brooking and daughters, Brooklin, were recent visitors with Mr. and Mrs, Norman Griffin. Mr. Jesse Arnott, Mrs, Stan Ogle, Tommy and Joan, Maxwell, were Monday evening callers at the Blake Oke home. Master Todd Penfound, second little son of Mr. and Mrs. Simon Penfound, was taken to the Sick children's Hospital, Toronto, on Tuesday, with acute tonsilitis and all hope for a speedy recovery. The Woman's Association at Courtice appointment will have its regular meeting on June 21 at the church, Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Goodall, Oshawa, were Tuesday evening callers at the Blake Oke home. Fra- lick for the week-end. Mrs. Jonas Smith is the proud possessor of a beautiful cactus which has over seventy delicate pink blooms. Two smaller ones equally as pretty, are red. Joint service at 11.15 a.m. on Sun- day. Decoration services at Pine Grove cemetery in the afternoon. Sunday, July 1st is set for Prince Albert Sunday School anniversary. Arrangements are also being made for a Sunday School picnic to be held towards the end of June, New Speed Record Set By Freighter Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. (CP) -- A new speed record between here and the head of the lakes was set yesterday by the new Cleveland Cliffs ship, the Cliffs Victory, which left the lakhad Monday morn=- ing to load a cargo of 14,000 tons of iron ore at Superior, Wis. The trip which normally con- sumes from 60 to 72 hours by other lake freighters was made in exactly 48 hours and 31 minutes when the Cliffs Victory locked back down at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. EVERYBODY'S FRIEND Halesowen, England (CP)--Street cleaner William Baker - who has served the townsfolk 16 years, the last two while suffering from a painful incurable disease, died re- cently.
