We 'had it -- the afternoon tea party following regular Tues- day afternoon play, but even that did not encourage enough members to come out and satisfy our cap- tain, however, maybe more next month. The general comment ran something like this . , . My! but it seems more like old times to be doing this again , . , or Now THIS is more like it! -- Anyhoo -- we think it went over and hope the ones who just couldn't make it this week will try the next time. Winn- ing the balls for the day were Mrs. H. Hiscock, who was with us from Thornhill Club, where she is also a member. Her net score of 72 was good enough for the first ball and Mrs. M. Hart settled the sec- ond ball with net 75 -- the rest of use were "also-rans" but we had ten players again for 18 holes, which seems to be a popular num- ber on Ladies Day. Come on gals -- if you are golfers, or even like be- ing out-doors the weather coldn't be more perfect! For the Business Girls round-up we notice Miss H. Richardson pull- ed up her socks for the prize winn- ing ball and they had a modest number 7 playing which is some improvement over the previous nights. (Maybe they should have a coffee party following their play to get the gang interested???) Top news around the club this week seems to be "Invitation Day" on Friday with tee-off called for 9:05 a.m. for a field of some well known lady golfers of the various surrounding clubs. About 70 en- | tries have been noted and were | hoping for ideal temperatures. The | course looks good and the many im- provements which have been made | have all added to playing pleas- ures (Thanks, Joe Roberts!). The results of the tournament | will likely be found elsewhere in this paper following the play. How's about "slicing" your way up to the club, and then "hooking" one off the first tee real soon? ... Be seeing you! | SALVATION ARMY DOWNS ALBERT ST. Williams, Johns. . 'RAPID ROBERTS REVIEW ON SPORT With the Oshawa Merchants at last beginning to show signs of sprouting a Yank import or two, the news comes from Whitby that their Merchants of the Lakeshore Intermediate League have snaffled an "over- the-horder-boy." The chap is Willie Zinser who pitched for the Oshawa Merch- ants last year. He got a chance to hurl a.. couple of innings last night against Port Hope Ontarios, but the frames were the last two in the game . . . was long gone against Whit- by by that time. Even so he looked rather effective say those who were present., A couple of Oshawa juvenile ball players are also making a place for themselves on that Whitby Merchants crew. We hear the Legion Minor Asso- ciation isn't too happy about the proceedings, but if they live up to their aim . .. to promote minor sport in the city certainly they should feel happy to see the boys getting along so well. Two more Oshawa ball-play- ers in the news are George Bra- hin and Bunny Maeson. Both former members of the Oshawa Transporters and now trotting to the dugout of the Peter- borough Marines, Maeson and Brabin have shown a fair bat- ting ability of late. George has been especially potent, getting a triple in four tries two games back and three safeties in four tries the last time out. v There is a very fat rumor travelling the rounds at the present time to the effect that one of the members of the North Torono Junior Baseball League is running without a sponsor. The club in quesiion (they shall remain nameless, the man said) trying to figure whether to fold its tent like the Arabs or to go sponsor-hunting. We rather figurc the NTAB will talk them into the latter course, though the money angle might well force the crew to take the other out. Another rumor that is circu- lated in this very rumor-gather- ing league is to the effect that New Toronto Silverts aren't the least pleased about the way their home diamond is being put in shape. There was even talk of them moving their games to Oakville. As Ab Walker said, "Can you imagine us making a trip to Oakville for a mid-week game. Why we'd be half the day get- ting there after work . . and and the score.. half the next day getting back." Course no one should believe such bits of rumor . . . they are usually unreliable bits of mis- information... We shall check some of these at their source tonight when the locals take on the Bruins at Eglinton Park ... who knows, as thé man said, "Where there's smoke there's fire." CHECKLETS -- From what we hear around and about, Col- lict, the junior pitcher who wanted to play for the Trans- porters this year .... he couldn't obtain his release from West Yorks, is now leading the West Toronto Senior league pitchers. Another junior, Bob Kutner, who doubles in brass by playing for Peter Pan Juniors and Seniors, leads the West Toronto League in RBI's. He also helps Sam Zale, who coaches both clubs, by handling the juniors when both teams play on the same night. Hear that Bill Ezinicki form- er Oshawa General, Toronto Leaf and current Boston Bruin hockey star, is back playing golf in his off season. Times were when he "puttered" about "where there's smoke there's at the OGC. Playing in a qualifying round for the U.S Open, Bill shot a 70-71 for a 36-hole total of 141, He was third in the field and thereby rates the first alternate post in the New Eng- land section of the tourney. He competed at Waterbury, Conn. Bill is pro at the Colonial Golf Club, Lynnfield, Mass. The coach of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats has lined up another Canndian college football star. Carl Voyles is said to have one Pete Salari, a former Hamil- tonian who played for Queen's last year, on the list. Joy will be unrefined in the Mountain City if the homebrew connects. ....By Bob Rife. | | LEGION MINOR BASEBALL STARKS PLUMBERS TRAMPLE DUPLATE | In a Legion Minor baseball game | played last night at North Oshawa, | Starks Plumbers handed out a one- | sided 20-8 trouncing to Duplate.
