PAGE FOURTEEN THE DAILY 'T IMES-GAZETTE THURSDAY, APRIL 19, 1951 fea HOLD GOLF CLUBHEAD ~ BELOW, BEHIND HANDS By ALEX J. MORRISON Central Press Canadian Gold Columnist Do you walk down the fairway with your club resting on your shoulder like a hoe? When you are getting ready to make a shot do you hold your club up in the air like an umbrella? Do you have the club head in any position oth- er than below and behind your hands? = If so, you have set the stage for serious faults in your swing. Among these are: too much right hand, sswinging from the outside, hitting ®with a closed club face and hook- ting or pulling. ¢ In fact you can suffer from any Spne of a thousand errors in this »category. Why? Simply because syou have asked for these troubles "by the manner in which you handle we club during the preliminaries # before the swing. *! By favoring your right hand and Lside during the preliminaries you ¢are bound to suffer from too much * fight hand during the swing proper. 4 The situation is just this--the i stronger side is ever ready to dom- finate all the other positions and «movements and once it-has taken #charge its domination never de- *reases. It always increases as the 3 action progresses. 8 The main problem is to keep the 1 stronger side from ever getting out ®,in front of the weaker side; just 'don't let it get started. In most 1 cases it gets its start when you first i place your hands on the club. If * not there, then it takes over in the 1 very first move you make when lift- sing the clubhead off the ground. So' "it will pay you to carefully check 1 your method of taking grip and 1 stance, * Have the clubhead resting in its % natural position on the ground with sthe top of the shaft touching your fleft leg. . Then place your left t hand first to get a firm hold be- # fore placing your right hand. !' After this you should be able to 3 left the clubhead off the ground # simply by moving your body to a ; more correct position. Then keep MEN'S STORE LEAGUE i.
