Changes In Agricultural Limestone Policy Agricultural limestone is a com- modity which is badly needed on a good many Ontario farms and changes have been made in the Agricultural Limestone Subvention Policy to make it possible for farm- ers to obtain their limestone by truck to do so with a minimum of trouble. Under new regulations no permit is required. Farmers will simply order the lime and after it has been delivered they pay for the lime plus the total trucking charg- es. Then they apply to the Agri- cultural Representative for an "Ap- plication for Subsidy." This must 'be signed by both the farmer and the Agricultural Representative. The actual amount of the sub- sidy remains unchanged, amount- ing to three cents per ton. Where transportation of this lime by rail is not convenient or economical trucking is the acceptable method of obtaining the limestone. Where the ground limestone is moved by rail, however, the situa- tion remains unchanged. The rail- ways have agreed to reduce the standard freight charge by approxi- mately 25 percent. In addition the Ontario Department of Agriculture, in co-operation with the Dominion | Department of Agriculture further | reduce the cost of the lime to the | farmer by paying freight subsidies on his purchase, provided the lime meets the necessary specifications. For Southern Ontario this subsidy amounts to 50 percent of the re- duced freight charges up to a max- imum of $1.50 per ton. For the | Not so artful, actually.
