WEDNESDAY, MARCH 7, 1951 THE DAILY TIMES-GAZETTE PAGE NINETEEN New Fabrics Patterns and Colors -- Highlight Spring Fashion Picture for Men Variety is the spice of men's fashion showings this spring, with a wider selection of fabrics than ever before and in patterns and colors that look fresh and new. For Easter, the well-dressed man may have a suit of wool 'Or worsted, of rayon, nylon, or a wool-and- synthetic blend, in just about any color of his choice, and an almost unlimited selection of patterns. In all-wools, the harder, wor- sted-type fabrics gabardines, especially, are still the fashion " leader. And, of the softer fabrics, there's as great revival of interest in flannels, Of special significance, this spring, are tweeds -- notably the donegals -- these are sure to ap- peal to men who want an all- purpose suit for a lot of service. The new rayon suitings for spring and all-season wear, are not only budget-minded but smart -- in sheen gabardines, solid gabardines, glen plaids, checks, sharkskins, cross-dyes, sand-tones and other weaves, in a wide variety of fashion-right colors, There is little innovation in suit styles, as major fashion interest for spring, centers around fabric and pattern. The single-breasted suit appears to hold an edge over double- breasted models this season. For a suit in the more casual manner, patch pocket styles are still in favor and feature three pockets. In topcoats, single-breasted fly front and trench coat models are both well liked. Gabardines are the favorite, with tweeds -- espe- cially the donegals -- as a close second. In sport coats, both plain and patch pocket models are smart. More flannels are being shown than in several years. Tweeds are better than ever, while lightweight wools, rayons, and blended fabrics are offered in a selection of both subdued checks and plaids and the bolder patterns, with special em- phasis on the tartans. \ In slacks,, the high - waisted Hollywood style continues to be favored. New details are offset pockets, back-flap pockets, and saddle stitching. More slacks in rayon and rayon blends will be worn this year, be- cause they have coolness, eye- appeal, budget-appeal. Scientists believe that human life has existed on earth for more than 2,000,000 years. Young Fashion Themes Echo Grown-Ups' Fashion is a family affair this spring--and the well-dressed tot- to-teen may choose an Easter out- fit that takes its cue from her |elry mother's costume! She will find pretty dresses for herself in the heavenly pinks, the lilacs and violets, the creamy beiges and golden shades that are featured in fashions for women and misses. Her Easter suit, like her Mother's, may well be navy is the leading color in feminine fashions for every age Daughter's spring coat or top- per will borrow such grown-up ideas as push-up sleeves and tumn- back cuffs and will probably follow line for line, the season's important pyramid silhouette. "Ensemble" is a fashion-wise word for spring, and young copy- cats will adopt it for their own in little vest-suits, topper suits, bol- ero costumes, and dress-with-coat outfits. Checks are another spring fash- fon that knows no age limit. They're here, there, everywhere in crisp schoolfrocks, in little suits, coats, and toppers. Cottons -- the mainstay of every girl's wardrobe -- are a fashion story in themselves. For dress-up frocks there are rich cotton satins, delicate sheers, drop-stitch weaves, and surface-interest cottons with embroidered effects. For school and play, neat checked and plaid ginghams are favorites. The "linen look" is echoed in children's wear, too, for dresses, sportswear, and dusters. Cotton skirts in modified peas- ant styles are not new, but they're still smart. Look-alike fashions for big and little sister, and for mother and daughter, as well, are a definite part of the spring fashion picture. Mother - daughter match - ups are smarter in styling than ever before in a delightful selection. of dressy daytime cottons, and gay sun dress- and-jacket combinations. For young 'under-the-sun fash- ions, plaid and checked denims are making news . blue--for navy || All That Glitters Is Fashionable It's a wonderful season for glit- ter as the new modes put real sparkle into fabrics, fashions and fancies!
