This work was first presented in Dresden in 1911 and its locale is Vienna in the days of Empress Maria Theresa. The broadcast will commence at 2 pm, 'The story concerns Princess von Werdenberg who is seeking solace in the company of a cavalier, Count Octavian Rofrano, while her hus- band is hunting in Arabia. The sud- den ringing of the house bell frightens the Princess who feels it heralds the unexpected return of her lord. The quick-witted Count hastily dresses in the garments of the chambermaid and answers the door; only to find that the visitor is one Baron Ochs von Lerchenau, a cousin of the princess, who needs her counsel on his pending matri- monial venture wherein he plans to marry in order to get his hands on a fat dowry. - The Baron's campaign as a suitor for the young lady's hand calls for a personal emissary to deliver a rose fashioned of silver, as a token of his earnest intentions. Count Octavian, still in the dress of the maid, haé caught the eye of the wily Baron to the dismay of the Princess, who, in a fit of anger sug- gests Octavian as a fit representa- tive to take the rose to Sophie whose money alone he covets. Sophie has strong aversion for the Baron but falls for Octavian whose love making is reported to the Baron by spying servants. Following several embarassing, yet humorous situations, Octavian slips off her outer garments and becomes the accepted Sophie. Those taking the leading roles in- clude Eleanor Steber as Princess von Werdenberg, Fritz Kreen as Baron Ochs, Rise Stevens as Oc- tavian, Erna Berger as Sophie, Hugh Thompson as Faninal father of Sophie, and Thelma Votipja as Marianne. Fritz Reiner is the con- ductor. Hampton Woman Celebrates Her 93rd Birthday M. HORN Correspondent Hampton, Feb. 22--Congratula- tions are in order to Mrs. R.
