FHURSDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 1950 -- In Jhe Home et -------------------- THE DAILY TIMES-GAZETTE TEREST TO WOME ~ OF . m---- Morgan-Budai Rites Are Solemnized At St. Andrew's Church Bronze and wine chrysanthemums in the chancel and white satin bows designating the pews formed the setting for a wedding on Saturday afternoon in St. Andrew's Unitea Church, Oshawa, when Ethel Budai, daughter of sr. and Mrs. Bert Budal of Maple Grove, Ontario was united in marriage with William Morgan, son of Mr. and Mrs, William Morgan of Detroit, Michigan. The Rev. George Telford M.A. B.D. performed the ceremony and Mr. C. J. W. Taylor D.C.M. presided at the organ and accompanied Mus. J. L. Pegg who sang "I'll Walk Be- side You" and "Because." Given in marriage by her father the bride wore a ballerina length gown of white imported lace over white satin designed with a fitted bodice featuring a Chinese neckline and long slim sleeves, with a richly flared skirt. Lace over satin fash- joned the juliet cap which crested hor veil of embroidered tulle illusion. Bhe wore the bridegroom's gift, a single strand of pearls, and carried a round bouquet of Talisman roses with white maline tufts, and framed 'with white velvet filgreb and sprays of white and purple heather from the bridegroom's native land. The bridal attendants were Miss Edith Arvey wearing emerald green tafieta and Miss Joyce Kennedy in bronze taffeta. They wore identical gowns styled on lines smiliar to that worn by the bride, with match- ing bonnet styled headdresses tied under the chin with veiling, and they carried nosegays of bronze and yel- 10w roses and maline tufts with long streamers to harmonize with their gowns. Mr. William Morgan Jr. of Detroit performed th duties of best man. The ushers were Mr. Victor Budal, of Maple Grove, brother of the bride and Mr. Fred Kenerson of Detroit. The reception was held in the Piccadilly Room of Hotel Genosha. To receive the guests the bride's mother was wedring an afternoon dress of forest green crepe, black hat and accessories and corsage of yellow chrysanthemums and pink roses. Mrs. Edward Wicks, sister of the bridegroom, who assisted was wearing a taupe crepe dress, brown accessories and a corsage of yellow chrysanthemums. Also greeting the guests was Mrs. George Morgan of Oshawa who wore & navy blue en-|in semble, navy velour hat and corsage of pink roses. The bride's table was centered with | a three tier wedding cake in a sétting of whit> tulle flanked with white tapers 'in crystal candlelabra end arrangements of bronze and wine chrysanthemums, Mr. Reg- inald Rouse of Maple Ontario was toastmaster. The toast to the bride was proposed by Mr. William Morgan Jr. and responded to by the bride- | groom. The toast to the attendants | was proposed by Mr. Fred Kenerson and responded to by Mr. Victor Budia. | For the honeymoon trip to Chi- eage and other American points the bride donned a wine gabardine suit with black persian lamb scarf, small black velvet hat, black acces- sories and a corsage of white fleur d'amour. Mr. and Mrs. Morgan will make their home in Detroit on their return. The bride's gifts to her attendants | were gold compacts. The bridegroom | presented the best man and ushers | with cuff links and tie pins. Danc- ing was enjoyed by the guests in the evening, with Mrs. George Morgan presiding at the piano. Brother, Sister, Take Mates in Nuptial Rites Saturday Afternoon Married within half an hour of each other last Saturday afternoon at the Port Perry residence of the Rev. J. G. Joblin who performed the ceremonies, Ruby Ellen Brown became the bride of Thomas Henry Slute and her brother, Harry Thomag Brown, took as his pride, Reta Mary Curl, Mr. Harry Brown and Miss Ruby Brown are the son and daughter of Mrs. Rob- ert Brown, of Port Perry, and the late Mr. Brown. Miss Reta Curl is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Curl, of Bowmanville, and Mrs. Thomas Slute is the son of Mr. and Mrs, Walter Slute, of Raglan, For her marriage which took place at 230 p.m. Miss Brown was ed in white satin and lace th a fingertip veil falling from 8 seed-pearl headdress, She car- ried a heart-shaped bouquet of rad roses and white chrysanthemums. " Her only attendant, Miss Reta Curl, was in pale blue taffeta with # pink bandeau headdress. Roses and chrysanthemums comprised her bouquet. * For her marriage which took lace at 3 p.m. Miss Curl changed a grey gabardine suit with navy blue accessories and a corsage of pink chrysanthemums. Her ma- tron-of-honor, the just-married Mrs. Thomas Slute, was in a wine suit with navy blue accessories and a corsage similar to that of the bride. Mr, Roy Slute performed the duties of best man for Mr. Thomas Blute who in turn acted for Mr. Harry Brown. A reception for the two couples was held at the home of Mrs. Rob- ert Brown who received her guests wearing a blue crepe dress with a corsage of red roses. She was ag- sisted by Mr. Douglas Curl who was in navy blue silk and Mrs. Walter Slute, in wine crepe. Later both couples left "for a wedding trip to the United States. Mr. and Mrs. Slute will reside on Scugog Island and Mr. and Mrs, Brown in Prince Albert. A Canadian citizen automatically ceases to be such after living out- side Canada for six consecutive years. Groups, Clubs, we RUNDLE PARK AUX. Rundle Park Ladies' Auxiliary held its monthly meeting on November 1, Plans were made for the Christmas party for the chil- dren to be held at 7 p.m. on December 7. Refreshments were served by the social committee. The next meeting will be held on December 6. 8TH SCOUT MOTHERS' AUX. The 'special meeting that was called for the Mothers' Auxiliary of the Eighth Oshawa Sea Spout Group was held in the Hillcroft Street Scout Hall on 'Monday. All articles for the bazaar, which is being opened by Mrs. William Cor- bett at 3 p.m. and held in the Athol Street Scout Hall on priday were handed in and marked. There will be home baking, candy, knitted wear, aprons, fancy-work, dolls and doll's clothes. The next meeting will be a Christmas party in the Athol Street Scout Hall on Monday, Dec. 18 at 6:30 p.m. There will be an exchange of gifts and a soclal evening after the supper. RITSON H. & S. ASSN. Ritson Home and School Asso- ciation entertained the Graduation class at a, social evening in the Auditorium of the school on Friday. There was round and square danc- ing and the lucky winners of the musical games were Janet Oke, Joan Tarrant, John Ruskay, Jerry Burrows, Jim Prescott, George Holté Mr. J. C. Fetterley spoke to the guests and wished them all success in the future and Mr, D. J. Railton and Mr. Thomas Davidson to pre- sent the graduation pins. Mrs. Ar- thur Radway, president of the As- sociation also spoke a few words. Miss Aileen Taylor on behalf of the class thanked the Association for the pleasant evening. Sand- wicheés, cookies and coke was serv- ed by members of the Executive of the Association. EVER READY CLASS The Ever Ready Bible Class of Simgoe Street United Church met in the church parlor on Tuesday evening for its regular social even- R. Mrs. A. E. Murdoch presided in the absence of Mrs. Tom Basinger. President Mrs. Rex Harper read the lesson. Mrs. Tom Adair led in prayer. Mrs. Alma Pauley read the secretary's report. Miss Alta Kemp gave the treasurer's report, and Presentation of Gold Cord Shown above is Miss Vera Moyse, rs Central District Commissioner, Girl Guide Association, presenting the coveted Gold Cord' Award to Gloria Wilson, a 5th Company Guide. This is the first time a guide in the 5th Company has attained this honor. Also shown is Gloria's father, Mr. Robert E. Wilson, presenting a World Flag to the 5th Company which is being received by its Captain, Miss Doris L. Coldrick. These Mrs. Norton McBrien gave the missionary report. Unscrupulous Brides Will Draw No More Unemployment Pay Ottawa, Nov. 9--(CP) -- Chisel- ling on unemployment insurance by newly-married women will be made tougher under new labor depart- ment regulations coming into ef- fect Nov, 15. The regulations will not hit at working wives but will clamp down on those who quit jobs for mar- riage and then try to collect un- employment benefits without in- tending to return to work. Under the 'new regulations, job- less benefits will be obtained as usual by married women: 1. Who have lost employment be- cause of layoffs due to shortage of work. 2. Who have lost their jobs with- in two weeks before marriage or an. employer rule against retaining married women. 3. Whose husbands have died, be- any time after marriage because of | come wholly and permanently in- capacitated, deserted them or been'. permanently separated from them, But those not coyered by the. three exceptions will be automati- cally disqualified from receiving : benefits for the first two years of marriage unless they supply proof , that they are available for em- ployment, This proof will consist in work-" ing at least 90 days in employment other than for immediate relatives. If a woman was not employed at the time of her marriage, the 90 days may begin any time after that. If she was employed when she married, the 90 days will begin only after she has left that job.
