WHITE Correspondent Thornton's Corners, Sept 4 -- Last Thursday evening Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Lander entertained in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Harris who were celebrating their 21st wedding anniversary. The party was to have been a corn roast with bon-fire and out- door activities, but the weather interfered, as it poured rain all evening, so the group met in the living room. Mrs. Lander read an address and presented the bride and groom with a gift of several corn flower pieces. The party then proceeded to the basement where round and square dancing were enjoyed, also a feast of corn and lunch. Miss Myrtle Blakely has return- ed after a motor trip t6 Ottawa and points east. Several from here attended the Toronto Exhibition on Tuesday last, when a De Nure bus from Port Perry was chartered for the oc- casion. Mr, and Mrs. Everett Hook have Ontario Spotlight Napanee, Sept. 5 -- (CP) -- After 57 years as a printer for the weekly Napanee Express, F. J. Vanalstine has retired. He's been a printer for 65 years and recalls that when he began the trade "we stood in front of a case of type from 7 AM. to 6 PM. for six days a week." He has worked for three different families which have owned Napanee weeklies and reported town cotun- cil meetings for 35 years. Toronto, Sept. 5 -- (CP) -- There were 1,039 babies under 18 months old entered in the annual baby show at the Canadian National Exhibition Monday. After 12 nurses did the preliminary weighing and measuring, 18 doctors finally picked Robert William Charles Calladine, eight months, as the best baby in the show.
