Mountjoy attended the Junior Farmers' Farm equipment project at Mr, Heber Down's Farm, Brooklin, Monday evening. Speaker was Professor H. W. Kitching, who gave valuable and ready informa- tion re repairs and adjustments for tractor equipment. Mr. M. Pereman has sold his threshing machine, Mr. Pereman's work during the years has been greatly appreciated. Mr. and Mrs, Percy Mountjoy were Sunday tea guests at Mr. W. Parish's, Brooklin, Mr. and Mrs. A. R. J. Luke, To- ronto, were Friday overnight visi- tors at Mr. R. J. Luke's. John re- turned home with them Saturday evening after a week on the farm. 'Mr. and Mrs, C. E. Love attended Decoration Day service at Green- bank on Sunday. Kedron S.S. Picnic is being plan- ned for Tuesday, August 29, at Gen- eva Park. Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm McGregor were Sunday tea guests at Mr. George Rowe's, Oshawa. Mr. and Mrs, Arthur Wray, Ger- tie, Laura and Alfred Wray were Sunday dinner guests at Mr, Wii- liam Smith's, Toronto. Mr, and Mrs. Wray and family, Mr, and Mrs. Smith and family were delightfully entertained with tea on the lawn at Rio Vista, To- ronto, guests of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Smillie. Mr. E. Hughes spent holidays at Kaladar, Mrs. Hughes and family are remaining for a longer vaca- tion. Mr. and Mrs, A. J. Cameron, and Alan, Douglas, Dwight and Dale Cameron had a 10-day holiday at Cornwall and Finch, attending the Scotch Games at Maxville, and having a day in U.S.A. They went via No. 2 and returned on No. 7 highway, visiting friends en route. Mrs. Geo. Scott and Miss Grace Scott attended a miscellaneous shower for Miss Eileen Glaspell, hostess Mrs. Harold Giffrd, Wed- nesday evening. Mrs. Frank Thompson attended a most enjoyable dinner party given by Miss F. Armstrong, Kendal Ave., Oshawa, Tuesday. Guests were friends formerly of Tarmton and vicinity. Mrs. E. V. Hoar, Bowmanville, Mrs. W. B. Metcalf, Base Line, cal- led on Mrs. F. W. Lee recently. Mrs, S. E. Werry is visiting Mrs. H. F. Werry. Mr. Lynden Coleman, Cornwall, accompanied by his uncle, Mr. A. J. Cameron, on his return home and has found employment in Oshawa. Miss Murie] Werry presented an interesting study on "The Bible" at Y.P.U. at Kedron Sunday evening. There was a fair attendance. Our Junior Farmers and Junior Institute members were out in goodly numbers for the entertain- ment of Kiwanians at Geneva Park Wednesday. A good time is re- ported. HOCKEY FIGURE DIES Toronto, Aug. 24--(CP) -- Joseph Shuter Smith, former hockey scout and mayor of Cobourg, Ont. died in hospital here Tuesday. He was a hockey scout for several years for New York Rangers. To Have Exhibit At Port Perry Fair gs RUTH DUFF Correspondent Shirley, Aug. 22. -- The August meeting of the Shirley Women's Institute was held on Wednesday afternoon, August 9th at 2.30 p.m, at the home of Mrs. Russell Spinka, with an attendance of 21 ladies and seven children present. The president opened the meet- ing in the usual way with "Insti- tute Ode," followed by the Lord's prayer, The Scripture reading, taken from the 23rd Psalm, was re- peated in unison. The motto for the month: "A prayer in its simplest definition is merely a wish toward Godward." The minutes of the July meet- ing were read and adopted, The new business of the exhibit at Port Perry Fair was discussed and plans were made for same. A letter was read from Mrs. Moore, thanking the members for fruit sent while sne was ill. Next followed the program. Reta Fenton sang, "A Chocolate Ice Cream Cone," with Mss. Ivan Moore at the piano. Mrs. - Gordon Strong played a selection of "Beethoven" parts of "Moonlight Sonata," and "Minuet." Our District President, Mrs. Bir- rell, Greenwood and Mrs, Harvey Brougham, Mrs. White Claremont, Mrs. Berrell topic, "The way we find the world today." Mrs. Har- vey and Mrs. Birrell led in com- munity singing. Mrs. Spinks serv- ed lunch, and all enjoyed the soc- ial afternoon. The next meeting will be held at Mrs. Ivan Moore's home in September, . Miss Ruth Duff was in Oshawa hospital last week and had her tonsils removed. Mrs. Harold Hocken, Port Perry, spent the week-end with her bro- ther, Austin Franklin and family. L. POGUE Correspondent Almonds August 23--Mr., and Mrs. Burrell Ball and children of Peterborough were week end: visi- tors with Loyal and Lois Pogue. Jean Foster has returned home, after spending seven weeks in Kaleva Michigan with Beverly Winterfield of East Whitby at Beverly's aunt, a good time was reported by both girls. Mr. Foster's sister, Mrs. Gemmell and family visited the Fosters last week end. Mr. and Mrs. Nort Pogue and two grandchildren were supper guests with Mr. and Mrs. Loyal Pogue on Monday. Old Jack Frost was hovering pretty close, a few nights this week. Mrs. Elizabeth Maddaford who flew to Regina early in June has visited her brothers, Harry, Archie, Dick, and Russell, is now on a tour to the Pacific coast with her daughter Catherine, public health nurse of Regina, stopping off at Calgary, Banff, Lake Louise, Van- couver, and on to Seattle by boat. The O'Connor family on holi- days are: Marguerite from the Pakistan embassy, Washington, D.C. Patricia, R.N., Toronto, with friends in Nova Scotia, Helen re- cently returned from a summer course at Queen's, Geraldine is with relatives in Goderich and Terry is attending a leader's course at Ontario Athletic Training Camp, Lake Couchiching.
