Beaulieu, representing the Attor- ney-General of Quebec, Wednesday argued that the judicial committee of the Privy Council should affirm a judgment of the Supreme Court of Canada which permits the sale of margarine in the Dominion. The Attorney-General of Quebec and Senator W. D. Euler of Ontario, who led the campaign against a federal law banning margarine sales, are opposing an appeal brought by the Canadian Federa- tion of Agriculture against the Supreme Court's ruling. The hear- ing continues today. Beaulieu submitted that the words "civil rights," used in their widest sense, included not merely rights flowing from civil and com- mercial contracts, but also what we would call the common law of any individual to engage in any pro- fession or occupation of his choice. Furthermore, it conceded the right of an individual to carry on any trade or business he might select for purposes of earning a living. Mr. Penny, formerly an official of The Quebec Chronicle Telegraph, said that less good material is be- ing attracted to newspaper work and those who do develop are finding their way into related fields, such as public relations.
