All Ban- tam and Midget players of the Oshawa Minor Softball Association, as well as all coaches and managers, are earnestly requested to be on hand and to be on time. Every team will receive sweaters (Brooklin also) on Monday evening. There are no games scheduled for Monday night. Team managers will be responsible for seeing that their players are on hand and that they receive the correct "size" sweaters. * * * George Davidson may not be the best pitcher to wear an Oshawa baseball uniform but he looks as if he'll prove to be at least one of the best. We haven't seen a better "floater" nor a sharper-breaking drop since "Jake" Biddle was fork-siding 'em across to Theo. Elliott and Buzz Bennett. The latest U.S. pitching import hurled Oshawa Merchants to a spectacular 3-0 victory over the powerful Peterboro team, here at the Stadium last night and he impressed the biggest crowd of the season as he did it. He allowed only two hits, one an infield roller which fast running beat out for a hit and he gave up two walks--but he fanned 11 batters in the 6 innings played. The electric storm cut the game short but the way it was going, Mer- chants had things well in hand. However, this Peterboro team is a mighty strong aggregation. They were late getting here last night and Doug. Plunkett, their no-hit, no-run ace, didn't have much time to warm up and this may have caused some of his wildness but he was rapped for six hits, two of them doubles and all of them solid. * # The Merchants looked very good in their fine win here last night. Oshawa Merchants still have a busy week-end ahead of them how- ever, with a game in Peterboro this afternoon and another on Sunday afternoon, against the league-lead- ing New Toronto Simpson Fords, at Millen Stadium. New Hurler Impresses Last night's game was easily the best seen here this season and a real baseball treat for the fans, with hurling was such a defensive bulwark that they didn't have much tough fielding to do. Peterboro's classy ball-handling when they turned a fake! double-steal into a double play at Oshawa's expense, was very smart. | It might have looked stupid to the local rooters but it was a good move, to attempt to squeeze in a run that would have been lost anyway if the | next batter had hit into a double-play and the Peterboro team must be given credit for playing it perfectly. It tad to be perfect to get the run- ner at the plate. That play of Fred Garvie's to rob Andy McMullen was a beaut. Andy should have run harder when he left the plate but Gar- vie's fine backhand stop and off-balance throw turned the drive that went through the box and over 2nd base, into a putout. The fans gave him a big hand. Peterboro and Oshawa are still great baseball rivals and their games are usually classics. They play again this afternoon, down in Peterboro and tomorrow, Oshawa plays New Toronto Simpson Fords, at Viaduct Park, at 2.30 o'clock. As it was, George Ticcony's per- fect throw nipped Dalton trying to steal 2nd in the 1st inning and Oshawa came right up to take the lead, Ted Barnes doubled down the left-field line -- the ball landed right on the line. He scored with one out when Bill Harper slashed a vicious single through the box out to centre. Plunkett's wildness and resulting walks, had Oshawa runners on base in every inning but a brilliant double-play saved one situation. Nicely Played Barnes had singled to open the 3rd and Harper drew a walk, with one out, Barnes going to 3rd, on a steal and then a passed ball. Osh- awa faked a double-steal, with Har- per deliberately getting into the hot-box between. 1st and 2nd. The Peterboro infield played it cleverly and sound, to hold both runners on their bases. On the next pitch, Oshawa tried it again, with more daring. Harper made a longer sprint towards 2nd but the Marines pulled off a nifty double-play, Plunkett's throw to Joe Stewart enabling Stewart to run down Harper, with help from Garvie and then Stewart made a perfect peg to the plate, in time for Menzies to nip Barnes trying to steal home, Most sensational fielding play of the game however was in the 4th inning when Andy McMullen slash- ed a vicious drive through the box. Davidson grounded out and Barnes fanned but Vic Napolitano drew a walk and then Bill Harper singled to right, scoring Bitman, with Napolitano taking 3rd. Then George Ticcony collected the 6th hit off Plunkett, also a single to right, to score Na- politano, George Davidson's 11 strikeouts and only two hits allowed and two walks issued, was the big defensive factor in Oshawa's play. One of the hits was an infield roller, which Dadson beat out to 1st by fast run- ning. Davidson was never in trouble, didn't let a man get past 2nd base and the only two runners who got that far did so after there were two already out. Doug. Plunkett fanned six Osha- wa batters but he issued five walks and the hits that the homesters did get were solid smacks with Ted Barnes and Bill Harper getting two apiece. ; EXHIBITION SOFTBALL TONIGHT CHRISTIE MOTORS sexo» OF GIBSON PARK - TORONTO "vs. PEDLARS Civic Memorial Stadium | 7 p.m. ADMISSION ... 25¢ | BASEBALL £ {STANDINGS .
