THE DAILY TIMES-GAZETTE OSHAWA Combining The Oshawa Times and Whitby Gazette and Chronicle WHITBY VOL. 9--No. 88 OSHAWA-WHITBY, SATURDAY, APRIL 15, 1950 PAGE THIRTEEN What's Cooking At Hobby Fair There are some~"rather pleasant aromas of fragrant cakes, mouth- watering pies, tempting - looking preserves and pickles and gooey pastries and cookies, emanating from the kitchen quarters of many Oshawa households the last few days. But just in case a hungry husband, or a voracious young son or daughter, is tempted to hold out his hand, be warned. It won't be any good. All these delicacies aren't for eating. At least, not yet. No, they're try-outs for the Home- Cooking Department of the Second Annual C.R.A. Hobby Fair next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and woe betide the hungry youngster who even takes a peek at mother's prize exhibit, set aside for competition for the Meagher's Electrical Appliance Trophy and individual or organization. President of C.R.A. Sees Hobby Fair As Important It is my privilege as President of C.R.A. to intro- duce to the citizens of Oshawa, through the courtesy of The Oshawa Times-Gazette, the second Annual C.R.A. Hobby Fair. To many of us last year's Fair was some- thing of an eye-opener in its demonstration of the wide range of the creative talents and recreational interests of our citizens. This year's Fair with its enlarged list of Departments and its many new features will, we hope, have something to offer to every age and every interest. The Fair is not an exhibition of the work of any single Some hundreds of Oshawa citizens either as individuals or as members of organiza- tions of widely varying ideals and objectives have con- tributed the exhibits which make up the Fair. On April 19th, 20th and 21st, they will have an opportunity of comparing their work and their standards of achieve- ment with that of their neighbours. As last year, the Fair has been made possible by the generous co-operation and assistance of many indivi- duals, organizations and business concerns. We hope we will see you at the Fair. HAYWARD MURDOCH, President, Community Recreation Association. Big List of Trophies, Awards for C.R.A. The above picture shows a dis- play of just a few of the handsome silver trophies and some of the prize ribbons. all the other awards which C.R.A. is offering. New Venture The Home Cooking Department is a new venture on the Hobby Fair schedule, put in just to appeal to all those Oshawa housewives whose plea is "my hobby's my home." There are sections for cakes, pastries, pies, bread, preserves, pickles and cookies as well as a miscellaneous section to complete the feast. Because of the nature of the exhibits, the normal Hobby Fair closing entry date of Saturday, April 15, will not apply in this de- partment and exhibits may be brought in at any time up to the time of judging at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18. To check a rush f volunteers, it should be made clear that the judges in the persons of Miss Viola Lidkea and Miss M. L. Allen of the Home Economics Department of O.C.V.I. have been lined up for some time. And in case any enthusiastic re- porter is likely to describe next week's C.R.A. Hobby Fair as a feast of hobby interest, well at least in poe department it'll be literally rue.
