(J21,28-F4) by Citation Nosed Out By Argentine Horse Arcadia, Calif, Jan, 28--(AP)~-- Citation, for only the third time in 31 starts, has come off the turf second best. Citation's return was marred Thursday by Miche, an un- hesaldod little grey horse from the e. 'The small one ignoring the great- ness of his rival, outgamed Citation and whipped him by a neck in a six-furlong thriller at Santa Anita Park, The race was Citations second trip to the post after a 13-month lay- off lue to leg Ynjury, and it was a tune-up for The Calumet Cannon- ball for the $50,000 San Antonio Handicap, Feb. 11 and the $100,000 Santa Anita Handicap, Feb. 25. | It was a full-seale race for Miche, "owever, as he took Citation's mea- sure in 1:10 4/5. The winner paid $30.20. Citation was 1 to 4. The distance favored Miche, a sprinter, ard"his 114-pound weight couldn't be compared to Citation's 130 pound package, BOWLIN G.M.C. CUTTING & SEWING LEAGUE The last section starts off with Happy Gang coming back strong to take top place and taking 3 from their top place rivals of last section. Aces, who are keeping Rollers com- pany down on the bottom. Deuces took 3 from Rollers and take over 2nd place. Lucky Strikes, Alley Cats, and Black Cats all get 2 each from Head Pins, Hot Dogs and Lucky six, Lucky Strikes piled up a nice score of 2,388 for 2 games, their first being 1,202, which puts them in the Honor Roll for Team High Single, putting Rollers out and it will take some beating. Greta Hogoman turned in a good score 224, 340 for the high single for the night. R. Westlake had 314, 238, 552; Paul Frank 900, 507; and Joan Cardinal 506; F. McMillan 486; B. Pipher 478 and Bob Stuart 462, which is all nice bowling. Alice Fitches and Hazel McCoy drop into the Lemon League while Pat Butler got out and the rest just stayed put in there. Last week the good scoring bowlers were few and far between. Only ten were high enough then to rate a notice. This week there are about the usual amount of good scores for singles and triples, but the lemon league outdid itself. About 75% of the bowlers had at least one score be- low 100. It must have been the heat or maybe the pins. It couldn't have been us. Or could it? Only one team was blanked this week. The Moonshiners lost 4 points to the Try Hards. The Jesters, Hope- fuls, Alerts, Corner Pins, Luckies and Pickers all took 3 points each from the Head Pins, Jokers, Pixies, Rovers, Sunshines, and Mayfalirs, leaving them only a 1 point gain in team standing. The Little Beavers and Skipalongs shared 2 points each. High Singles--Jean O'Donnell 216, 212, 237; Marj. BOWLING LEAGUE Well, every team made a clean sweep on Wednesday night (this is bowling, not curling). I have one sad story to relate: It seems that Don Logan went home last week after bowling, and bragged to his offspring about his high score. Then when his name didn't appear in the paper, his family were rather doubtful of the authenticy of hi story. Anyhow kids, your pop di get 213; it's all my fault. The Watts, Cutouts, Sockets and Live Wires each took 3 points from the Dimbulbs, Thrubolts, Neptunes and Transfaymers. Two records were broken last night. Lloyd Pegg. now holds the men's high doubles honour--550 (252, 208), and Jack Sanders the Men's high single 306. You still have to beat the ladies fellas! Gerald Bull came next with 285, then Bill Duffy 256, 203; Benny Bennet 246, 203; Len Shaw 232; Ted Colvin 231; Doris Fudge 230; Nelson Turner 230; Rae Rundle 224, 203; Horace Hartshorn 217; Lou Ferencz 210; Helen Petre 206; Iris Bobier 205. The Standings Now: Cutout Sockefs . Dimbulbs . Live Wires . Thrubolts .. Neptunes . Watts Transfarmers Look, the Watts have company at the bottom! BUSINESS GIRLS LEAGUE There are some real nice scores being turned in these past few weeks of which we are very proud, but we would like to see all our girls turn out for bowling. Several teams have had only 3 or 4 girls turn up. If you find it impossible to bow] the oc- casional Wednesday evening play fair with your team, and 'try to get someone to substitute for you. 200 Club Laura LaPlante 262; Sylvia Phil- lips 260; Chris March 234; Nettie Sheridan 221; Vera Topping 230, 211; Judy Carlson 242; Nancy Mackay 200; H. Bert Keay was the guiding light on the Crates team as they slapped the whitewash brush over the Caps. Top team fought Cappers team when the Carriers and Cappers did battle; and the Carriers came out on the large end of the 3-1 score. Doug. Hart was best for the losers while Tom Neal. and Grace Holmes shone for the victors. The combined efforts of Vera Sargeant, Sammy Aldsworth and George Corby couldn't stop the Covers, as led by Stan Sar- geant, they defeated the Cans, 3-1, Top bowler of the night was Grace Holmes, who sét a new record for high triple without handicap with a nice score of 785.
