Kingston, Dec. 31--(CP) -- At the close of business today, The Kingston Whig-Standard and one of its immediate ancestors, The Daily British Whig, will have com- pleted a century of daily newspaper publication. When the first copies of The Daily British Whig were distribu- ted Jan. 1, 1849, vast stretches of Canada hati not even been opened for settlement. To mark this event, The Whig- Standard will publish a special centenary edition Jan. 8, devoted to the history of this and other news- papers published in Kingston 8 century earlier. Funeral Service Held For Miss Isobel Holt Funeral services were held Mon- day for Miss Isobel Holt who pass- ed away December 25, after a leng- thy illness. She was in her 77th year. * Born in Darlington Township, she came to Pickering with her parents at an early age. She was the daugh- ter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Holt, She was well known in Pick- ering and was a member of the loc- al Presbyterian Church. Surviving are, one sister, Eliza- beth; three brothers, Ted of West Whitby, Norman and Charles, at home, Funeral 'sérvices were held at the McEachnie Funeral Homie, with her pastor, Rev. Jas' beéri called for Jan. 28 and 29 in" Toronto, it was announced yes4 terday, The meeting is the result of a conference here last October which decided that wage demands should be set from time to time, depending upon economic trends.
