Oshawa Generals: defeated Windsor Spitfires twice last, week' and then turned around last night te drop a game to the cellar team of the Junior "A" group.) : 'That was a costly loss. For a start, it' was a 4-point game and fosing "those 4 points is like losing 8 points--since Generals didn't get 'em and most of the other top clubs will, when they play a 4-pointer with St. Mike's. Of course, on the other hand, quite a few teams will be */ victimized by St. Mike's. Coach Joe Primeau has a few tricks left and we predicted two weeks ago that they couldn't be counted out. Now| it can be seen that about three of those 4-point. victories and they'll have clinched a playoff berth, From Oshawa's standpoint, it's bad since those 4 points would have put the Generals tied for 2nd place this morning. Instead they're not only down in fourth spot but when the othér teams catch up with these games, they'll find that defeat was costly. We appeared to be headed for about third place on Mon- day morning and this morning it looks as if we'll do well to hold fourth place. + + * In the only other O.H.A. No Peace Sighted in Pro Football Battle In U.S. By HERB ALTSCHULL Philadelphia, Dec. 21 -- (AP)-- There was no peace on the far- ; Windsor flung - United States professional Oshaw football front today, but prospects for a settlement of the three-year war were brighter than ever. One clear fact emerges from the meeting between representatives of the National Football League and All-America Conference. It is this: Both circuits are genuinely inter- ested in trying to find some solu- tion that will give club owners some greenbacks to go with their halfbacks. { They didn't agree on a satisfac- | tory answer after 12 hours of dis- | cussions Monday. But you can't expect them to | settle a three-year fuss in 12 hours. It was the first formal meeting be- tween NFL, and A.A.€. since the All-America Conference was form- ed in 1946. There undoubtedly will be more meetings, and each conference may | gether. There is a strong possi- season begins the two rival leagues The N.F.L. has adopted the atti- tude all along that it is a going | concern and that the AAC. is a pesky fly-by-night that is likely to collapse of itself. For- this reason, N.F.L. owners generally have remained aloof and have waited for the A.A.C. to come crawling on its knees and ask for mercy. The A.A.C. men made it plain at the peace meeting that this they are not willing to do. They want to quit losihg money and they want to reach an agreement with the N.F.L, but they don't want to give in to the senior league's dictates. Benjamin F. Lindheimer of the Los Angeles Dons of the AAC. said he's sure that A,A.C. can con- tinue operations through 1949. It probably cap, but at the same time the owners will lose even more money than they did in 1948. Georgie Kaplan, | Bos York at Chicago. York at Montreal; at New York.
