Tomorrow -- With Christmas approaching, the CBC Wednesday Night program this week will concentrate on the celebration of the yule season, and on music and drama befitting this time of year. The traditions of simple, joyous beauty which have come down to us through the cen- turies will be accented in the pre- sentation this week of the musical and dramatic "The Vigil of Christ- | mas." The musical portions of the of | program will be performed by the Leslie Bell Singers, famous Canad- ian' all-girl choir, directed by Dr. Leslie Bell. Work The Wednesday Night program |. starts' this week with a perform- ance of selections from a religious arns| work by the seventeenth century composer, Heinrich Biber. These selections, taken from 'The. Mys- teries from the Lives of the Virgin Mary and Christ," will be played by Geza 'de Kresz, distinguished Hungarian-born violinist, who will be accompanied by his wife, Norah Drewett de Kresz. An accomplished linguist and an international traveller, de Kress has held posts in Vienna, Bucha- rest, Berlin, Toronto, and Buda- pest; and has given concert' tours in all parts of the world. Fontaine Philosophy "A Christmas Story" by Robert Fontaine is a warm-hearted fan- tasy about Mary Ann, who is fift- een and confused, but would like to be twenty-five and know every- thing. She feels that all the world is deliciously' expectant, but she wonders about 'the grown-up world. i Playwright Fontaine suggests that life is only as grim and com- plicated as our limitations of love and understanding. Faith, under- standing, hope and love are still the main ingredients of a happy life, he says, and life can be as happy and satisfying as young people expect it to be if we will only rid ourselves of false, self- made problems. Organ Recital This week's.recital in the weekly "Distinguished Artists" series will be an organ recital by Maitland Farmer, to be broadcast from All Saints' Cathedral in Halifax. Mr. Farmer will play variations on a Noel by Marcel Dupre, and the choral prelude "Rejoice Now Christian Men" by J. 8. Bach. The entire composition is also a choral prelude, this time by a modern composer; Dr. Healey Willan of To- ronto. This is entitled "Puer Nobis Nascitur," and # will be followed by the concluding work, "Adeste Fideles" from a group of six pieces on Gregorian - tunes by Sigfrid Karg-Elert. UJC. CAROL CHOIR * A Christmas Carol Choir compos- ed of members of the head office staff of the Unemployment Insur- ance Commission and a short ad- dress, by Labor Minister 'Humphrey Mitchell will feature "The. People Ask" program sponsored by the Federal Department of Labor and vroadcast over CKDO tonight at 8:15. The all-male choir, composed of personnel ranging from office boys to executives will be under the direction of G. E, P. Jones and will present half a dozen favorite carols, Norman Hodgson, acting manager of the local National Employment Service office announced.
