This development was revealed as a big surprise to M.P.s when they- read in their Parliamentary papers of a new Licensing Bill presented to the Commons by Mr. Chuter Ede, the Home Secretary..There had been no hint of the Bill in the King's Speech. The Bill will extend the existing State-management of public-houses to all the new satellite towns, the first of which is to be at Stevenage.
