'AirKindergarten' Began Yesterday Yesterday saw the beginning of the new CBC program "Kindergar- ten of the Air", designed especially for thie tot of pre-school age. Al- though this program was tried out on an experimental basis last year, this is the first time that it has been heard on a trans.continental network. "Kindergarten of the Air" is plan- ned with the advice of kindergarten experts and representatives of the Canadian Home and School Feder- ation, the Federation of Women's Institutes and the Junior League. The program is designed primarily for home listening, but has also been found useful in organized kinder- garten groups and classes. The fifteen-minute broadcast heard daily Mondays to Fridays, in- cludes an introductory song theme, exercises (stretching, marching, dancing, and so on), the learning of songs, listening to stories, and participation in play activities. The co-operation of parents is sought in providing material such as paper, crayons, and blunt scissors. The children are always given some sug- gestion for indoor, or outdoor ac- tivity of a constructive nature -- collecting specimens of leaves and flowers, or making themselves use- ful about the home. "Kindergarten of the Air" will be conducted by Miss Dorothy Jane Goulding (Mrs, W. Needles) and Miss Sandra Scott, "Dorothy Jane" as the children call her, is a To- ronto girl educated in England, Vienna and Toronto; an Associate of the Roya] Conservatory of Music in Toronto, who holds a teaching certificate from the Toronto Normal School. She has had considerable experience in teaching, including kindergarten work. She has studied and performed music and drama since early childhood, and has spe- clalized in the presentation of chil- dren's entertainment programs over the air. On this program she ar- ranges her own narration and music and sings to the children (accom- panying herself on the piano) in a charming manner that wins their confidence and affection. "Kindergarten of the Air" will be heard from 10:15 to 10:30 a.m. every weekday over the Trans-Canada network of the Canadian Broad- casting Corporation, Ozzie & Harriet Bow In Oct.10 The door-mat has been swept clean and the door knocker polished to a high luster at radio's fictional 1847 Rogers Rd., home of a favorite American couple, Ozzie and Harriet. The merry Nelsons will welcome listeners to their fall premiere to be rebroadcast Sunday, Oct. 10, at 4:30 p.m. Their program, "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet," is a comedy of family life which is actually based on the real life experiences of the title characters and their sons, David and Ricky. Ozzie and Harriet are assisted in their air adventures by two young radio actors, Tommy Ber- nard and Henry Blair, who portray David and Ricky, respectively. Viv- acious Janet Waldo plays the cute next-door chatterbox, Emmy Lou, and John Brown is heard as an- other Nelson neighbor, Will Thorn- berry, who has a penchant for get- ting into scrapes. Move To Canada? No, Says Briton London, Oct. 5--(CP)--A govern- ment spokesman today jeered at a suggestion that war plans 6 have reached the stage where evacuation of some government departments to Canada has been discussed. "We didn't do it in the last war and there is no likelihood we would do it if another war came," he said. Willie = Gallacher, Communist Member of Parliament for West Fife, said in a recent speech in the House of Commons that in the event of war he predicted the Royal Family would go to Canada. But as the demolition of air raid shelters was halted and air raid sirens in London were being re- wired, the Royal Family was due to return this week from Balmoral Castle in Scotland and take up normal residence in Buckingham Palace, still- scarred from wartime bombs. A source who worked in an im- portant ~ government department throughout the war said "there was never a breath of a suggestion" that it go overseas. On the C.B.C.
