. riot, a Halifax school teacher, and FRIDAY, AUGUST 27, 1948 THE DAILY TIMES-GAZETTE PAGE ELEVEN Teachers Study Art Of Theatre In Nova Scotia By JOSEPH KING Canadian Press Staff Writer Seabright, NS.,, Aug. 27 (CP).-- 'Nineteen Nova Scotians, ranging in age from 20 to 46, have gone back to school here--studying ways and means of Qolstering community and school dramatics in Canada. In a rambling, two-storey dance hall, the students study acting, direction, stage management and stage lighting. The emphasis is on direction, The 10-day course, first of its kind in the province, is conducted by Donald Wetmore of Indian Har- bor, N.8., dramatic adviser of the provincial education department. The drama students--two-thirds of them are teachers, one is a Roman Catholic priest and some are housewives, pay only their hotel bills for the course and combine it with & vacation, They study in a room in the dance hall with a tiny stage at one end and stacks of scripts and theatre books on each side. Mr, Wetmore lectures in the morning, gives the students practical work in the afternoon and holds rehearsals in the evening. "I have learned enough in one day to make the course worthwhile," says Phyllis Commons. Miss Com- mons, a Truro jugjor high school music teacher, plans to add drama- ties to the school curriculum this fall. Another student, housewife Stella Bower of Lower Ohio, will launch & new dramatic group in her tiny south shore community. The only men are Edward Mar- Rev. C. H. Bauer, of St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish. All but one of the students have had stage experience. To Repair Walk At Enniskillen Darlington Council met recently with Reeve K.
