(194b) Walks 81 Miles To Speed Rescue Of 4, Collapses Edmonton, Aug. 19 (CP)--A heroic 8l-mile cross-country walk by a member of an equipment ine specti party put him in hospital at Norman Wells, Northwest Terri- tories, but resulted in the rescue of three other men and a woman in the party. The five were stranded at the Twilya River after losing their jeep and all supplies when a raft, with which they were fording the river, capsized. The party was on a trip 'from White Horse, YT, to Norman Wells. One 'man started the long cross- country walk and managed to get within nine miles of Norman Wells before collapsing. A truck from Norman Wells found him and took him to hospital. Royal Canadian Air Force planes have dropped emergency supplies to the stranded quartet, of which two are believed sick, and a rescue party has set out from Norman Wells. Names of the persons in the party are not known.
