"FRIDAY, JUNE 25, 1948 THE DAILY TIMES-GAZETTE PAGE FIVE A Frosty Formula For Grand Eating Summer is just around the cor- ner, and these hot sultry days are sure to arouse that old longing: for ice-cold frosty ice cream just like "mother used to make." Here's a good recipe for chocolate ice cream your young folk will love and you'll like it too because you can make it in the tray of your refrigerator. 1% C granulated sugar 1 tbsp all-purpose flour 34 generous tsp. salt 2 whole eggs, slightly beaten 2 C scalded milk 2 squares bitter chocolate 2 C heavy cream 1 thsp vanilla extract Combine and mix well the sugar, flour, salt, then beat in the slight- ly beaten whole eggs. Pour the hot, scalded milk over the egg mixture, slowly and gradually, stirring brisk- ly while pouring. Cool over hot water until mixture is thickened; cool, and strain through a muslin, then add feavy, unwhipped cream and freeze in a hand freezer, using three parts ice to 1 part rock salt, or. in a refrigerator tray, Pack or mold using four parts ice and one part prock salt, English Wit Bubbles Despite Troubles The fount of humor in the En- glish people springs eternal. Con- fronted with the tremendous task of being host to the Olympics in the face of housing and food shortages, they are still giving thought to their own entries in the events, and the following lines from a currently popular song by the Weston Bro- thers are apropos: The Olympic Games are coming, |' so go all out, we beg! The other nations needn't think they'll take us down a peg! We'll win the Egg and Snoon race --if they let us have an egg! Other catch phrases that are go- ing the rounds include "St. George for England, everything else for ex- port." "We ought to be thankful for small murphies," this in con- nection with a slight increase in the potato ration, and on the dollar question--"Of course we could de- clare war on America,--let them win in a week, and then they'd have to keep us for the rest of our lives)" Clean and oil furnace pipes in Sumner to prevent, rust and corro- on. St. John, 81-year-old retired rancher of Arcola, Sask., seated himself before a microphone in a radio station and cut recordings to be played at his funeral. The funeral oration made up two records played in less than 14 minutes. But Mr. St. John, shown above, admits to the possibility that his wife or son or friends, all of them church members, may call in a minister to conduct funeral services. It is to be stipulated in his will that the record be played at his funeral.
