THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 1° Musical Genius Displayed In Adaskin Recital At CRA The musical genius of two of Ca- nada's outstanding artists permeat- ed the informal surroundings of the Community Recreation Association Auditorium last night when an ap- preciative audience heard a pro- gram of superb quality by violinist Harry Adaskin, accompanied at the plano by his wife, Frances Marr. A noted pianist in her own right, Mrs. Adaskin playde an integral part in the recital, giving it more the flavor of a duet than a solo performance. Rising above mere technical efficiency, their interpre- Halo reached the height of great art, Major works on the program were Beethovan's Sonata No, 3 in G, Opus 30, and a concerto by the 20th century English ' composer Frederick Delius. In these, as in his entire program, Mr. Adaskin's profound richness of tone and clear-cut fingering were dominant features. The sympathetic co-ordination of vioiin and piano also a feature of the recital as a whole stood out in Lie unai allegro vivace movement of the Beethoven sonata, which fol. | lowed the. supremely lovely tempo di minuetto. As explained by Mr, Adaskin, the | Delius concerto, written in 1916, re- flects the composer's profound love of nature and its sounds. Combin- | ed with this passion for nature is a tinge of despair resulting from his deep awareness of the transience of | these lovely things. The opening theme persists throughout the work.and is played slowly on the plano at the very end as if in farewell, The latter portion of the program comprised a group of numbers lighter in character but played with 0 48 the same finesse displayed in' the lengthier works. These were the well-known Chan- son Arabe by the tuneful Obertass M-~zurka Wieniawski, Debussy's waltz Plus que Lente (The 'nd the coloriul Hoe Down from Aaron Copland's ballet Rodeo. in acknowledgment of by La | THERE OUGHT TO BE A LAW AT LAST IT SEEMED THEYD FOUND A BABY FOOD LITTLE BOONDOGGLE WOULD LAP UP WELL, ITS ABOUT TIME LIEVE IT!
