PAGE TWELVE THE DAILY TIMES-GAZETTE Plan to Build Playground At Tyrone Park MRS. WALTER RAHM Correspondent Tyrone, Feb. 24--Feb. 5, the committee of Tyrone Recreational Park held its first meeting. It was decided to increase the efforts in collecting donations wherever pos- sible and to build this year a booth, rest room and children's play- ground; also to plant trees and place a fence around the park prop- erty. These directors were present: L. Byam, E. A. Virtue, R. Glaspell, Les. Coombes, Harold Skinner, Percy Werry and W. Thiesburger. It was decided to buy 2,600 feet of lumber from Stuart Hooey to build a four-foot fence in the skating rink and the proposed booth and restroom for the park. Harold Skinner was appointed to look after the culvert and work con- struction to the park entrance in the spring. Institute Meeting The February meeting of Tyrone Women's Institute was an interest- ing one especially for older resi- dents of the community. The topic was "The History of Tyrone Church" and was ably prepared and given by Mrs. L. Goodman. Col- Jecting local history is a hobby of the speaker who is a life-long resi- dent of Tyrone community and whose family ancestors have also been residents from early years. She was thus well-chosen for this topic and drew on memory, infor- mation from older acquaintances and old records for her data. Any- thing short of a complete report of this paper would be to leave out many interesting items, We shall here just state the points covered: The founding, list of ministers, dates of adding new pews, furnace, shed, installing of hydro, and a few such highlights, We express gratitude to Mrs. Goodman for col- lecting these facts of our church history. Mrs. Beckett was hostess for this meeting and Mrs. Rosevear pre- sided for the business session: Hospital room, donation of $3.00. Committee was named to look after entering the "Better Farm House Contest"; committee of Mrs. H. Skinner and Mrs. G. Brent to receive suggestions for .the Mrs. Thompson memorial. The roll call was answered by "an item of in- terest on work done in other branches. Mrs. R. Scott gave a very fine devotional, I'rs. D. Stainton presented the program of a reading by Dorothy Wright, the topic by Mrs. Good- man, and a splendid contest pre- pared by Mrs. E. White, the an- swers being the merchants of Bow- manville. Mrs. Stainton expressed thanks to participants.in the pro- gram. Next meetin: at Mrs, G. Alldread's and do not forget the meeting at Hampton, March 9, at 130 p.m. on Household Account- ing. Senior Y.P.U, February 19, Senior People's was held in the Sunday School room with a large attend- ance, The minutes of last meeting were read and approved. It was de- cided to entertain the St. Paul's Young People in April and have the meeting in the hall. It was decided to donate $150 to parson- age board to help pay the parson- age debt. The meeting was in charge of recreational group under the leadership of Elinor and Gor- dyn Brent. Games were played for the remainder of the evening. Salmon loaf scalloped potatoes and home made buns and coffee were served. A good time was enjoyed by all. The Tyrone W.M.S. sent a par- cel to Miss Mary Haig, a mission- ary in Japan, at Christmas. Miscellaneous A community miscellaneous shower was held in the hall Fri- day evening, with a large crowd to honor Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Skinner (nee Shirley Park) on their recent marriage. Dancing was enjoyed, music was supplied by Lloyd Yeo's radio phonograph and local musi- cians for square dancing. A large assortment of gifts were received by Lloyd and Shirley; speeches were made by both. All sang "For They are Jolly Good Fellows." Abundant lunch was served, and all enjoyed a real good time. Saturday evening another carni- val was held on the rink which young and old certainly enjoyed, after which a hockey game was played between Salem and Tyrone with our boys being the winners. John James, of The Canadian Statesman, toek pictures. Monday evening another hockey game was played between Solina and Tyrone, again dur boys were the champions. Mr. and Mrs. W.
