Lunt and Fontanne, radio recognizes Jack Benny and Mary Livingstone as its top cguple and the screen now points with pride to the husband- and-wife team of Humphrey Bo- gart and Laureen Bacall, Not since Vivien Leign and Laur ence Olivier were interrupted by the war in what promised to be a highly successful marital teaming, has there been .as notable a screen associatio that of Bogart and his actress In earlier years, Vilma Banky and Rod LaRocque appeared oppo- site each other in an occasional film, as did Herbert Marshall and Edna Best, Tyrone Power and An- nabella. No man-and-wife team however, has appeared so consist- ently and successfully together in films as The Menace and The Look. Bogart and Bacall, who have been inseparable since their marri- age in 1944, carry their "tcg.ter= ness" to the screen for the 'third time in their newest Warner Bros. drama, "Dark Passage." The Bogarts, who became Mr. and Mrs, while appearing in "To Have and Have Not," have since shared billing in "The Big Sleep." In "Dark Passage," based on the suspense § by David Goodis, Bogart portrays a convict who es- 'capes from San Quentin peniten- tiary to prove his innocence of murder. Miss Bacall is cast as a sympathetic friend who helps the fugitive in his quest. During the production, the Bo- garts spent most of their weekends on their boat at Newport Beach. "The Santana" is a 54-foot yawl for which the Bogarts have almost as much affection as they do for their Boxer dog, Harvey. "Hollywood Highlights By BOB THOMAS Hollywood. --The film story of Russian espionage in Canada, "The Iron Curtain," will be treated mere- ly 'as a spy yarn, and won't deal with international relations. 'This information comes from the set of the picture, which is being rushed to hit the screens as early as 'April. International disagree= ments will be avoided in the film, although there will be mention of the Communist propaganda line. Dana Andrews tells of meeting Igeér Gouzenko, whom the actor por- trays in the film, When Dana was on location in, Ottawa, he was es. corted by, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to a hideaway ad- dress. There he had a two-hour conversation in a small room with the former Russian embassy clerk whose information led to the spy trials. Mrs. Bogart is known to movie goers as Lauren Form of Announcement of Legal Change of Name Dear Mrs. Beeckman: My wife and I. wish to apply to the court to have our name changed. This change of name would apply also to our two children, a girl and a boy. If this application is grant- ed, it will be necessary for me to send some form of announcement of the change in name to many business---associates and acquaint- ances as well as to our friends. How would you suggest such an an- nouncement be worded? Paul This is a proper form for this an- nouncement: Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ofriginal-name announce that by Permission of the Court Théy and their children have taken the surname of Robinson This is engraved or printed on plain white or off-white cards of ample size, in a simple type, per- 'haps Shaded Antique Roman or Script or block letters. Introducing a Boy As "My Boy Friend" Is Certainly "Hick" Dear Mrs, Beeckman: What an argument my brothers and I had at the dinner table last evening .., and we decided to come to you for the decision! The argu- ment concerned the way I introduce my boy-friend. I have two brothers, one a senior in an Eastern college, and the other in High School. At a ago, I introduced my bcy-friend, as I always do, as "my boy-friend." My brothers happened to be stand ing near, and heard me. Last even- ing they began to razz me and said that I was a "hick" to say "my boy- friend" when I introduced him, in- stead of saying his name. I was cer- tainly annoyed (to put it mildly) when my mother and father agreed with them, fcr they all know that I consider him "my boy-friend" ev- en though we aren't engaged and have never even considered bhecom- ing engaged. + My older brother said that neith- er he nor any of the fellows he knows introduce a girl as "my girl friend;" that if they are engaged a girl they say "my fiancee," and if} they aren't, they just say her me. Both brothers sald that any 1 who said "my boy-friend" ;| when she introduced him, either {| was a "hick" and didn't know any dg mi A treasure! The most useful and becoming dress you'll find. I told them they'd probably learn. ed these fancy ideas in their schools . . . that most of the girls I know sald this . ,, that I didn't think it was "hick" ... and that I had no intention of giving the im- pression that I "owned" my boy- friend, for we are just good friends and that's all. I've tried to be fair in giving both sides of the argu- ment, Mrs. Beeckman, Are my par- ents and my brothers right about this, or am I? Christine M. You were so fair in presenting your introduction-problem that I wish I could tell you you're A But I honestly can't. Your parents and your brothers are right in say- ing: (1) that for a girl to introduce party we all went to several days |' WHAT SHOULD I DO ABOUT Announcing Change of Name? . By MRS. CORNELIUS BEECKMAN a boy as "my boy-friend" is "hick," and (2) that this form of introduc. tion is a give-away that she has a proprietory attitude toward the young man, Since 'you say you haven't this, and if you don't want to seem to have it, throw this in- troduction-form into the discard, and at once. It's bad form, and it's bad business, too, for often, too oft len, a girl's introduction of a boy as "my boy-friend" scarés him off from whatever degree of friendship there is! One of the important things about the way you presented your ques- tion is that it so clearly reveals the attitude of boys and men about this | question of girl's using "my boy friend" in their introductions . .. and this scornful attitude should, but often doesn't, give girls a cue. This isn't a "fancy idea," as you say . . . it's just plain good sense and good form. If a girl is engaged to 'a man, she introduces him as "my fiance," usually with the ad- dition of his name. If she isn't en. gaged to him, she should introduce him by his name, 'as she does any other friend. Formal Wedding Invitations Sent To Attendants Dear Mrs, Beeckman: Is it correct' to send engraved wedding invitations to the members of the wedding party? Is it really necessary? To me it seems super- fluous, since of course they have been "invited" for some time. .. RM. Yes, it is correct, and customary, to send 'a separate engraved wed- ding' invitation to every member of the wedding party. Although occas- ionally, when the supply of invita- tions must be curtaigd, they are not sent to the men attendants (best man and ushers), They are always sent to the bridal attend- ants (tionor attendants and brides- maids) because they treasure them for mementos of this important oc- casion, A BAD NEIGHBOR Vs. A GOOD NEIGHBOR : By Mrs. Beeckman : "A bad neighbor is as great a plague as a good neighbor is a blessing; he who has a good neigh. bor has a precious possession."
