The present rates being paid for wa- ter by township residents will re- main in force until the master meters are in operation. Manager George F, Shreve and members of the Commission would not harard a guess as to CBL CFRB eration due to the fact that they still have to be ordered and de- livered while considerable work will be necessary constructing the meter pits. Mr, Shreve stated that the situation as regards securing this type of meter is slow at pres. ent. For the benefit of the Town- ship Council, Mayor F. N, McCal- lum explained that in moving that the installation of the me- ters be delayed he had overlook- fact that it was necessary for the Township to apply to the Municipal Board for , authoriza- tion to issue debentures, He stres- had been to make possible a sav- ing of money to the Commission and also the East Whitby taxpay- ers, Mayor Tenders Apology Tendering his apologies to the Township Council for his over- Swan ® Co. 107, Ki Fe nbn, be ig | rights nserved, 25°35 "So never once in your married life have your wife and vou disagreed--I daven't contradict mine, either!" po | sight, His Worship said -it might take months or years for the an< + |nexation program to go through. , | He said it was not altogether necessary for Oshawa to go into annexation as there were all kinds of lots which can be serviced and developed. However, sooner or later, the taxpayers of Oshawa and East Whitby would benefit from annexation. He considered that the majority would benefit from annexation rather than the way things~are how. He had, he continued, always tried to take the viewpoint of residents of East Whitby. The only point in the agree- ment which occasioned discussion was that relating to the power of ths Commission to control the use of water for lawn sprinkling, ir- rigation and industrial use. It was pointed out by the Commis- sioners that this clause gave the Commission the power in an em- ergency to restrict the use of wa-. ter in the Township the same as it does in the city. Councillor Explains Remark Councillor W. R. Noble ex. plained that his remark at a re- cent Council meeting about May- or McCallum throwing a monkey wrench had not been intended as; a slam against His Worship, He felt annexation would come ev- entually but he felt 'some relief would . be given township resi- dents if the P.U.C. could scale down its water rates. Députy Reevé T. D. Thomas ptinted out that the Township had borrowed $50,000 from the bank; and is'paying 4 per cent in- terest on this* money, It was, therefore, imperative .that the agreement be signed as soon as possible to permit the township to apply for authorization to issue debentures, Two Sentenced For Auto Thefts 'Windsor, : Ont., Nov. 18--(CP)-- Lynn Dougherty, of Windsor and Robert Wood of London, were each sentenced to one year determinate and 'one year indeterminate in re- formatory, when they pleaded guil- ty in magistrate's court to an as- sortment of charges involving thefts and auto thefts.
