The four Nazis have been spend- ing much of their time playing chess, using numbered boards and shouting moves to each other through the bars of the individual cells. Staley, who also confessed crim- inally assaulting and killing Garry Billings, 11, at Vancouver last July 5, has been assembling jig-saw puzzles, The Nazis have refused to speak to Staley, who served four years with the Canadian army. Jail of- ficials said the Nazis regard Staley with contempt as a criminal, mean- while maintaining they are not guilty of murder. They claim they merely executed a military order in killing Lehmann. Execution of the five men will be- gin shortly after midnight Tues- day but it was not known whether they will be hanged singly or in pairs. The last previous hanging in Lethbridge was June 26 when Sgt. Werner Schwalb, a German prison- er of war, was executed for killing another prisoner, - Pte. August Plaszek, at the Medicine Hat camp. No claim has been made for any of the bodies of the five to be hang- ed tomorrow. Jail officials are pre- paring to bury them in a common grave. The bodies of three other murderers also are buried in the jail grounds. Try a classified advertisement for quick results- FOR SALE! EMPIRE STOKER In perfect condition. working 3 controls. Quick Action By Neighbors Saves Family BARRY MURKAR Pickering, Dec. 16--Waking about 7:30 on 'a recent morning, Miss Barbara Parkinson, well known beauty contest winner, penetrated a drug-like daze to find her Pickering home filled with fumes from the coal stove. She entered her brother Stanley's room, to find him suffer- ing from a. coughing spell before he passed out. Unable to shake off the effects of the gas, she too soon succumbed. In the meantime, her father, Mr. W. Parkinson, waking to find his wife in a semiconscious condition, and himself on the verge of col- lapse, stumbled from the house and awakened the next door meighbours, Mr, and Mrs. Leslie Fry. The Fry's aided in reviving the rest of the family and summoned Dr. V. E. Cartwright of Pickering, who rushed to the scene. Mrs, Parkinson was the most in need of medical atten- tion. Miss Parkinson told The Times- Ga:tte that if it had not been for the help rendered by the neigh- bours, Mr. and Mrs, Fry, the ex- perience might have proven fatal to the entire family. The Rotary Club had another of their "classification talks" on Mon- day evening when Rotarian Frank' Prouse presented some information on the little known mysteries of the "steel square", Harry Curtis, ama- teur-professional wit, will address the next meeting Monday. The C.G.I.T. meeting was opened by the president. The Secretary's and Treasurer's reports were given, followed by the business and the Worship periods, the latter taken by Nettie Wionzek and Joanne Pypher.
