Kearns proudly pointed out that he has yet to learn of a "fixed" basketball official. "That's a fine record, considering that the game has reached bigtime proportions in which gambling money flows freely," he said. He thinks the game should not be slowed down as some officials demand. "It's true the whistle-blowers are being run out of gas but the ans- wer to that problem is simple. Just add another official and you'll find that three men will handle the game as it should be. Now, the two officials get tired late in the game which is understandable since they have to keep up with fresh players the coaches keep shoving into the line-up." ORTSN LLACIES MARGERY MILLER Because football players habitu- ally wear football uniforms in games, we assume that they must. The assumption is false. The rule book of collegiate foot- ball, in treating of players' equip- ment, emphasizes the fact that no player may wear, underneath or as part of his uniform, substances or materials which might cause physi- cal injury to the opposition. But it says little to deter players from wearing much lighter uniforms than are customary. Bo McMillan, now famous as a coach, was the sparkplug of the football team which first drew the mational spotlight to Centre college. In 1919 Centre was trailing Indiana (of which he was to be- come coach years later) when Bo quit the game. He came back to his quarterback position a short time afterward attired only in a jersey' and track pants. So clad he sped to a touchdown, unencum- bered by excess weight. He passed for another touchdown. The, final score was Centre 12, Indiana 3. Belfast--(CP) -- Belfast harbor surcharges are being raised because of decreased port traffic and higher maintenance costs.
