M. WHITE Correspondent Dec. 3:--A wedding of interest to this community 'was solemnized in Toronto on Thursday, Nov. 28, when Eugene Francis Bailey, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Bailey of Brookiin, and Eileen Elizabeth Davis, daughter of Mr, and Mrs. Jack Davis of Toron- to, were united in marriage. The ceremony . was reriormed in St. James' Cathedral with Rev, Gerald E. Moffat officiating, and the bride was given in marriage by her fath- er. The bride who was unattended, wore poudre blue silk crepe dress in street length, with white acces- sories and a corsage of red roses. The groom who is still in service wore his army uniform. Following the service in the cathedral a reception was held at the home of the bride on Centre Island. Mrs. Davis received in a dress of navy blue with all white accessories, and Mrs. Bailey wore a black crepe dress with poudre blue accessories. The bride and groom will reside in Brooklin. The Lend-A-Hand Group will meet at Mrs. Ratcliffe"s home on Wednesday evening, Dec. 4. Mr. R. Women's Institute Misses Addie and Elsie Vipond gave their home on Wednesday for the November meeting of the Wo- men's Institute wien a large num- ber attended and enjoyed & most interesting meeting. Mrs. H. McCool presided. Mrs. G. H. Hunter gave a very full and interesting report of the Area Convention, speaking of the various reports, addresses, re- solutions, music, etc. She raid spe- cial tribute to Mrs, J. E. Houck, the Area chairman who conducted the various sessions and delighted the delegates with her pleasing man- ner. Mrs. Alves made a special plea for the Adeiaide Hoodless Memor- ial Foundation Fund and more con- tributions were received for this. The interest frcem this fund goes each year for a home economics scholarship at MacDonald Hall and the Institutes of Ontario are ask- ed for $35,000.00 which is equivalent to one dollar a member. For the Roll Call each was ask- ed to tell the history of her farm or home in the village. Mrs Alves, Mrs. Hunter anda Mrs, Wm. Familiar names of cld-time residents figured in all of these. Mrs. L. Hall read a brief history of their farm which was for- merly owned by the DeLong family. Mrs. N. J. White gave the history of the library which began with only men on the library board and today all but two are women, Miss Vipond said that their farm had been in the femily for 62 years. Mrs, Howard Mackay gave the history of their farm (Walnut Farms) and told of its being transferred to School Section No. 1. Mrs. F. Cairns told of the old toll gate and of the house where she was born which was on the site where the Continua- tion School now stands. Miss Olver said on the lot where hier home stands a butcher shop stocd some forty years ago. Mrs. Grigg's home stands where a tannery was once located and operated by the Mur- rays -- Miss Jessie Murray was a visitor in the village a few weeks ago. Mrs. P, L. Jull said the parson- age was about 70 years old. Mrs. F. M. Holliday gave a brief sketch of the Holliday Farms and Mrs. Mc- Pherson said that their house stands where the Presbyterian clwurch was some years ago. Mrs. Ratcliffe and Mrs. Agar told briefly of former ownerships of their homes and Mrs. Batty said that the first brick house in Brooklin stood on the corner south cf W, 8S. Croxall"s hceme and it was here that the first Bishop of the Methodist Clwurch lived. His ter- ritory extended as far east as Port Hcpe. Mrs. Van Horn had the distine- tion of living in Brooklin for the greatest number of years, and her stories of business centres and homes wag a highlight of the meet- ing. Mrs. Van Horn was cresenied with a potted plant, by the Presi- dent, for this distinction. Mrs. W. F. Batty is preparing the Tweeds- muir village Pepa of Brooklin and had a number of pictures dating back many years, which she passed among the members. Following the meeting lunch was served by the hostess assisted by Mrs. W. A. Mac- Neely and Mrs. L. Cadets Parade To Church Sunday, Dec. 8 at 7 p. m. a spe- cial Cadet service will be held in the. United Church when No. 1913 Armoured Regiment Cadet Corrs will parade to the church for ser- vice. Although the Davies" family and Mrs. Craig have lived in Brock- lin a very short time, they have made a host of friends as they have entered -so wholeheartedly into the activities of the community and sorrowing friends extend sympathy to the bereaved family.
