Big 6-Run Rally Win Exciting Eastern Suburb Boys Come From Behind To Take Lead, Then Play Win- ning Ball to Earn Cham- pionship -- Pete's Place Make Great Fighting Fin- ish but Lead Too Great To Overcome -- Maeson And Loreno Pace Har- mony Attack and Good- win Hurls Well Harmony Millionaires wound up their local City and District Junior softball campaign by taking Pete's Place for the proverbial "ride" in the last fume of the series by a score of 10-6 up at Alexandra Park last night, That gives the Harmony team the Junior "A" Softball champlonshi of the Oshawa City District, They deserve a lot of credit for this win as they were placed third in the official standing at the end of the year and they fought all the way into and through the finas, This last game was just a sample of ihe sremendons "team spirit" of the club; The game was a very thrilling one for all of the many spectators that attended and there was a big crowd, The game was tight till the third frame when Harmony took a four run lead after being down two runs in the inning before. Goodwin Hurls Well There was only one strikeout in the game and the credit for it goes to the winning pitcher, Goodwin, ame was not one for the hurlers ut on the other hand when you consider that Baxter gave up 14 hits for ten runs and Goodwin but seven for six you can see what a difference the pitching made, Goodwin truly deserved his victory, Pete's Place were in there fight- ing all the way and early on, they seemed to have the game all packed away, only to lose it in the next inning on loose play. Harmony started the first frame with their first homer, With two men out "Willie" Maeson pounded one out into center field that the fielder misjudged and the ball went far over his head for the first run of the game. Jimmie Loreno then singled past second base but the next man went down on a pop up to the shortstop, and retired the side, Pete's Take Lead Pete's Place came back in the last of the first to take the lead for the only time in the ball game when they made a three-run tally, Claus led-off with a scratch single to right field, Stark followed with another that was errored on in right field and it allowed Claus to pull up at third and' Stark to atop at second, Benkowski then tripled to left field and that scored two runs and he came home himself on the bad return to the infield. The blow went right down the foul line and was close to being a foul all the way. Talllon and' Loople pop- psd out: for the first two outs of e inning, Edmonds then made it Jide when he went down third-to- Pete's Place tried to widen thelr lead in the last of the second when they pushed & man as far as sec- ond, Taylor laid down a bunt that went astray as it hit him for the automatic out, Kovacks then bloop- ed a grounder to third where that baseman made him an out at first, on a nice toss, Baxter then clipped & double but was left stranded as Claus ended the inning by flying out to the right fieder. . The Fi re n came Harmony's big innin thay realy won them 'the game, Fi was the first of the third and one man was out, when Penfound singled past second base. Loreno then doubled to put Penfound on third, Bunny Maegon walked, to load the bases and then Goodwin started to win his own game with a double to center field that scored two runs Dart walked and then on & passed ball the runners advanced to second and third, Robinson hit a ball to the shortstop Talillon, that Was errored on the throw to the plate, to score another run and then Saunders got to first on a similar choice , only time the catcher bobbled the throw to the plate, which allowed Goodwin to score the sixth run of the inning. Scott popped out to the left fielder and then Penfound, up for his sec- ond time in this frame, ended things as he went down second-to- first, 1 ue) | Pete's Place made up for ones those runs in the last of the fourth when Loople walked and then went to third on the error to the first baseman on Edmond's hit, Taylor flied out to left field and that sent Loople in from third with Pete's Place's fourth run, making the score read 7-4 for Harmony. Kovacks popped out to the pitcher and then Baxter retired the side when he flied out to the shortstop. Winners Boost Lead over Pete's when a two-bagger to center field to open "Bunny" Maescn hit into a force to center field, Dart bingled into next two men ware easy outs to end the frame, with the score reading 9-4 for Harmony, Harmony pus.ied another single- ton into the plate in the first of the eighth to make it 10-4 in their 10 fight Billy Westfall of Belleville at the Diamond A.C. S| (Continued on Page 3) favour, With one out Dart tripled { f One might infer from this that the | 9th, Harmony again made the margin | Place a little larger | the first of the sixth they |i got two more runs, W. Maeson hit | iS the inning and Loreno followed it | | up with a sing.e to score Maeson, |} out as he grounded to second and | Loreno was tajyged out. Maeson | 8 then went to second on an erroy to | | the second baseman and was sent | |g to third by Goodwin, who singled | what should have been a fielder's | § cholce but for a moment's hesita- | § tion and then it was too late and | anoiher run crcssed the plate. The | HARMONY CAPT URES JUNIOR SOFTBALL CROWN In 3rd Frame Enables Harmony Millionaires "Sudden-Death" and then on Robinson's infield out he scored on a close play at the plate, Saunders drew a walk but he was caught on an attempted theft of second, for the final out of that frame, Pete's Make Great Bid Pette's Place made a great rally in the last of the ninth but the old story of too little and too late came true as they only were able to count two runs and leave the final score at 10-8, Two were out when Tutak who was in for Olaus got a walk, Stark then blazed one at the first baseman who made a stab and missed, allowing Stark to go to sec~ ond and Tutak to pull up at third, Benkowski then doub to bring in one run while the other scored on the fielder"s bad throw to the infield, Benkowsk! reached third on the play. Taillon! then ended the Jame by popping out to the third aseman, The Big Hitters It was a great game and the big hitter of the evening was Willie Maeson of Harmony with a "four- for-five" average the best for both teams. Jimmie Loreno was next with a "three-for-five" and one al- most intentional pass to his credit, Benkowsk!i hit well for Pete's Place and he got a 500 average on the night's play.
