Reports indicate that the yield pro- mises to be good, although a num- ber of farmers experienced diffi- culty in harvesting their crops, which were badly flattened by the recent heavy rains.and winds. Deputy-Registrars L. Johns and C. E. Morley, with their thirty-five voluntary assistants, who worked in three shifts a day, were able to con- veniently handle the National Re- gistration here, which was held in the Town Hall. At no time were the workers overwhelmed with ap- plicants, although nearly eight hundred cards were made out. Mrs. Maria O'Connor, who is in her ninety-second year was the oldest registrant, with Mrs. A. Rice, aged ninety, being the second in age. Most of the problems met were easily overcome, but the deputy re- gistrars were stumped when, in reply to the question as to the birth place of his father, one sixty year old registrant answered that his father had been born in mid- ocean and he did not know the nationality of the boat on which the blessed event had occurred. Hope, Corr) SCUGOG, Aug. 20 -- On Tues- day afternoon August 13th, the Women's Association meeting was held 'in the Centre Church with a good attendance, About twenty of the Prince Albert W.A. members accepted the invitation to visit our meeting, as well as several from the Head Community Club. The meeting opened with a hymn, and prayer by Mrs. Russell Carter. Mrs. PF. Crozier read the scripture les- son, Mrs. Aylmer Ploughman then gave one of her choice readings. Mrs. Redman, daughter Irene, and their friends Mrs. Col. Pearson and daughter Evelyn from Oshawa sang, "There'll Always be an England". with Mrs, Redman at the organ. Miss B. Jones of Moose Jaw, who is visiting her sister, Mrs. John Joblin, always gives nice talks at our meetings. She told this time about a little Chinese baby who was the first one christened in the new church at Moose aw several years ago. Later she moved with her parents to China where her home was bombed. Miss Jones has always kept in touch with her. Mrs. F. G. Joblin then sang a lovely solo, with Mrs. Redman at the organ in the absence of Mrs. Geo. Sweet- man, Mrs. Roy Henders gave a well chosen reading. The meeting was brought to a close by hymn 374 and prayer by Rev. F. J. Joblin. Mrs. Jonathan Aldred and Mrs. Roy Henders were chosen to arrange the program for next meeting. Around a hundred enjoyed the lovely sup- per set on the parsonage lawn. Ice cream is always a special treat for young and old. Proceeds $17.25. A lawn party was held on Thurs. day evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Redman. The sup- per, which looked very tempting on the lawn, was much enjoyed by a large crowd. The party afterwards .motored a half mile to their church where a very humorous play "Look out Lizzie" was well given by St. John's AY.P.A. of Blackstock. Everyone felt better after some hearty laughs. They were enter- tained between acts by a reading by Mrs. Hamilton and songs by Mrs, J. Smith to his own accompaniment. A very enjoyable afternoon was spent On Thursday afternoon the an- nual reunion picnic of the WM.S. was held on the lawn of Mrs. George Philip, with a large attendance. The regular meeting of the Auxiliary was in charge of Mrs. Cassie, president. Those taking part in the Devotional ssession were: Mrs. J. Miller, Mrs, Brown and Mrs. Holtby. Among the visitors present from outside points were: Mrs. Mina McMaster, a Dea- coness of Toronto; Mrs. Phil For- sythe and Mrs. Perny from Mark- ham; Mrs. W. Mrs, Mechin exhibited an autograph quilt designed by her other, the late Mrs. Pouchier, and made in 1897 to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria. A wonderful afternoon of social reunions, games and much conversation was enjoyed. Tea was served in picnic fashion at long tables on the lawn, and an open invitation was extended to all for next year's reunion. On Wednesday, August 14, a pretty wedding took place at Claremont United Church manse, when Miss Helen Parley and Willlam Allan Gray were united in marriage by Rev. I. E. Kennedy. The bride wore a white silk jersey dress and match- ing accessories, and carried white and yellow hybrid roses. Miss Phyllis Farley, sister of the bride was bridesmaid, wearing a dress of tur- quoise blue sheer with white acces- sories. Her flowers were roses. The groom was supported by his cousin, Mr. Howard Plaxton. After return- ing to the bride's home for light refreshments, the happy couple left for a motor trip to Windsor and other western points. The bride travelled in a hyacinth blue sheer dress. On their return the happy couple will reside near Brougham. Church Service at 2.30 p.m. next Sunday as usual.
