He just wouldn't tell Mrs. Peter how his curiosity had led him to the top of Little Joe Otter's slippery slide and so close to the edge that he had lost his balance and tumbled down into the water at the foot of it. No, sir, he just couldn't tell her that, So he contented himself with saying simply, "I just fei: in" must "Well, all I can say Is, you made a good job of it," retorted Mrs. Peter, Just then who should arrive in the dear Old Briar-patch but Sammy Jay. 'Hasn't Peter told you that he the champion slider or the ! Smiling Pool?" asked Sammy. "That is just one of Sammy Jay's foolish jokes," said Peter hastily. "Little Joe Otter sends you an invitation to join his party to- morrow morning," . continued Sammy, "You can tell Litfle Joe Otter to mind his own business and you go about yours," snapped Peter, who by this time had quite lost his temper. are!" the cried is merry is (Copyright, 1932, by T.. OSHAWA Wednesday, December 21, prpved a very special night at 5th, ot only did we entertain 6th Oshawa, but we were much honoured by having as one of our guests, cur Commissioner, Mrs, Eric Phillips. We surely were glad to see her. 'As Mrs, Phillips entered the hall, the girls formed a file on either side of the door, making a long aisle for our commissioner to walk down. It looked quite nice. The girls spent the early part of the evening in games, led by Miss Wilcox of 6th, Oshawa, and Miss Cornwall and Miss Mutton of Sth, After lots of strenuous games and loads of fun--the gZirls settled them- selves to listen to a most interesting program, Sixth Oshawa certainly are fine singers, and we surely enjoyed those Ukrainian songs, girls, Fifth con- tributed a toe dan e, a violin solo, and 'several recitations to the pro- gram, The program closed with Christmas carols, sung in two parts, we had quite a choir didg't we, and Miss Barrowclough proved to be a fine leader and pianist. After the program the Commis- sioner introduced three games and did the girls enjoy them! Lunch was served about 9 o'clock and after a fine feast of sandwiches and declared our party a great suc- cess. Merry Christmas girls of Fifth, and the best of luck in 1933 is the wish of your and Guiders. 18T. OSHAWA GUIDES Instead of our regular Guide meeting this week we held a so- cial.
