'We Deliver --- SWALLOW IN BELFRY , "Curfew shall not ring to- night!" cried the heroine whose lover was to be killed at curfew, and she muffled the bell with her body. ' A swallow has adoptd the same tactics to stop a bIl ring- ing in Yorkshire today. Perhaps the bird's first nest was destroy- ed this year; all the good sites had alrady been 'taken, and when house hunting, rather late in the year, the only safe place she could find was 'the church in Goole Cemetry., The bell might have :distarbed hér babies, so she attachd her nest to the bell rop just where it passes through a hole in the cefl- ing of the church porch. She thought that no Yorkshireman would dash mother and bables to the ground, and she is right. It has been decretd that the bell shall not be tolled till the young birds have flcwn away over the sea to Africa which, of course, will be soon now. IT IS COMING! They wave their hands to say goodbye, Their little hands of red and yellow; Farewell to Sun, and Moon, and y And Stars, ana Wind, their old play-fellow. The waving leaves have had their day, The tall bright dahlias soon wil! follow; Then hark! A sound from far away Like sleigh bells and the driver's hollo! Far, far away, but day by day The trotting hooves 'and bells sound clearer; ' Let rough winds blow! Come rain and snow! t GOLFER PLAYS A TREB A player wio durirg his round actually climbed a tree and ptay- ed his ball from the branches to the edge of the green has just won the Pakenlam District Golit BALL FROM IEE RES CRE IRE OES HIRES IRE S HO RES a . ¢ For.
