PAGE EIGHT THE OSHAWA DAILY TIMES, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 1932 Many New Attractions For This Year's Oshawa Fair NEW MODEL COACH SHOWN AT FAIR Gray Coach Lines Exhibi- ting One of Finest Models Here Next Week One of the interesting features at the Oshawa Faip this year will be the exhibition, by the Gray Coach Lines, of one of their newest model motor coaches, such are be- ing placed in service between Tor- onto and Oshawa. This coach, which will be on the grounds for the whole period of the fair, is of ex- tremely beautiful design, but the chief features are to be found in its transmission system. In this new model of motor coach ac- | comamodated in individual adjustable twenty-nine passengers can be reclining seats upholstered in fig- ured mohair and provided with cushioned head rests. The seats are so spaced that the rear axle housing does not interfere with the | comfort of any passenger. Shatter proof safety glass is used and the windows are raised instead | of lowered for ventilating purposes. The windows ride in any «desired position, A positive ventilation system as- sures an ample supply of fresh air | at all times while two large hot | water hearters and completely in- | sulated walls and floor keep the coaches warm and comfortable dur- ing the winter months. In principle the fluid flywheel is | a very simple device producing a] smoothness of motion comparable | with that of a, airplane or power boat. It consists of two unitsithat replace the usual flywheel and clutch. The driving unit is attach- | ed to the engine crankshaft contains a number of cells filled | with a glycerine compound. The other, the driven unit, surrounds the driving unit nd contains a net work of fins similar to those of a turbine. Whe, the engine is run- ning the driving unit is rotated at such a speed that the glycerine and compound is thrown outward and | against the fins becomes sufficient When the force of the liquid against the fins becomes sugicient to overcome the resistance offered by the weight of the coach vehicle moves off steadily and smoothly. At no time is there an) direct connection between the mo- tor and the drive shaft, The epicycle transmission that re- places the standard gear box per- | mits the driver to give his undivid- | ed attention at all times to actual | driving and steering--a new safet: factor. All gears are meshed at all times but the gear whose power is | transmitted to the drive shaft is de- termined by a small lever on the steering wheel. This may be set at whatever gear the dri chooses and that gear is engaged simply by touching a footpedal; he does not take his hand from the steering wheel. In introducing these new motor coaches Gray Coach Lines has once again forcibly demonstrated its pos- ition 'of leadership in highway tra- vel service, also fully convinced that the con- tinuatlon of its efforts to provide equipment of the most modern type will promote ever-increasing travel catherproof { and rattleproof tracks and they are | remarkably 'easy of adjustment to | the | Gray Coach Lines is | on "The King's Highway" and fur- ther progress and prosperity in On tario. R.D. PRESTON, FORMER MAYOR OF CITY, SEES OSHAWA FAIR AS BIG BENEFIT TO THE FARMERS OF ONTARIO COUNTY | "During boom days people | very seldom stop to think why the wheels of industry are tur.- ing. Why farming communitie« are doing well, Why everybody seems to have work, They know 2ll these activities are going on and they don't stop to reason out the solution. Today things are different," said Ex-Mayor Robert D. Preston, while talking | with The Times about the Osh- | awa Fair. Mr, Preston is a director the Fair Board and believes it is an organization which is going to convince the people of the ci'y that they must give of agricultural interests Province. Continuing Mr. '"The period of depression which we have passed through has con- vinced us that when the farmer is not doing well the cities arc not doing well. There is unewm- ployment and every condition that tends toward bad business. The Oshawa Fair is an instftu- tion for encouraging better farm- ing in our district, to create more interest in this line of en- deavor, to give the men, women, boys and girls who have worked hard throughout the year an op- portunity to display the fruits of their labor. The Fair should receive the whole-hearted sup- por; of the citizens of Oshawa particularly for with the success of the farms comes work and business to our city."
