It was a snappy game of ball all the way through, with little to choose betwee) the teams, except that the Falcons were able to bunch their hits 'a three innings to make more tha: enough runs to win the game They outhit their opponents bh: eleven hits to eigh,, but five of their hits came in the sixth in ning to count for four runs, and these runs represented the mar- gin of victory. The Malleables made desperate efforts in the seventh and eighth to turn the tide, but had to be content with one run in each of these innings. Falcons took the lead by scor-- ing two runs in the second in- nigs and one in the fourth. The Malleables were held scoreless until the fifth, when they notch- ed a single counter, and it was still anybody's game, Then came the fatal seventh, when the Fal- cons tore loose, and with five hits, including a two-bagger, and an error, came home four times to win the game, Uniformly good pitching was served up by V, Elliott for the winners and A. Fisher for the losers, but the fielding was a trifle ragged in spots. The Fal- cons had five errors chalked up against them, and these helpel the Malleables to score their three runs, while three misplays were chzrged against the losers One of these came at a crucial time in the seventh innings, ani had a decided effect on the scor- ing. R. Reece, of the Malleables, had the best batting record of the g:ome, getting three hits, in cluding a double, in five tim.: at bat. For the winners, E. El- liott, M. Elliott and L. Watson all bagged a couple of safeties The second game of the series will be played on Friday nighr, when the Malleables wil] doubt less make a big effort to even it up.
